If you're not improving then 4 sets to failure every afternoon must be too much.

I improved from 35 to 55 by only doing easy sets (a combination of 15 and 20) and only testing my maximum every 8 days. Bit different eh?

Brian, what was your method to improve your press ups?
Multiple sets in the evenings, or throughout the day etc?

It might be something like this:

11am - 20, 20, 15, 15
3pm - 20, 20, 15, 15
6pm - 20, 15, 15, 15

I'd have a couple of minutes between sets so it was always easy.

The daily order was: on, on, on, off, on, on, test, off.

It's pretty simple but worked well for me. :)

Did bleep test today and got 10.3 and did 32 pressups and 62 situps. My bleep test needs improving but its only my second attempt at it.

The title of the thread should give you a few clues as to what you should be doing / aiming to do.

Three mile run. Mile and a half out, easy pace. Mile and a half back best effort (around the 9 min mark)

Bear in mind there will be a warm up before hand which will leave you out of breath.

60 press ups in 2 mins.
80 sit ups in 2 mins.
6 pull ups.

Aim higher than what is expected.

Bleep test. Some people pass with level 9, but aim for 11+

Bottom field. Assault course (upper body and sprints). Determination test, sets of press ups, sit ups, squat thrusts and hill sprints.

Gym test 2. Upper body and sprinting... at the end more sprints (bastards they are)

As you can see... A lot of sprinting and upper body strength / endurance. You need to be able to haul your own body weight around the assault course... so press ups and pull ups are the way forward.
Roll off...?

Sprints, sprints and more sprints.

as for pressups, when you can't do anymore, on your last one go down onto your knees and bang some more out that way, it will hurt, but no pain no gain.

Run

Post by MadAd »

Tested myself on a 3 mile run today, 1.5 miles out then 1.5 miles back. Did the 1.5 mile out in 9:36 minutes, then 9:37 mintues back. So was very happy with that time.

Training

Yeh was quite good. The run out was mostly flat apart from one bit which was medium length downhill, then the 1.5 mile run back was mostly flat again with a medium gradiant uphill. Im still trying to find a route which is mostly flat on the way out and uphill on the way back. I can run a 3 miler in about 21:30 minutes even less if i push myself.
