Bear Grylls had someone credited as 'Survival Expert' (or something along those lines) on his show, but I can't remember who it was. A bit fishy...

I suspected something like that.

As much as I like his shows and i think hes a genuine expert, some of the stuff he does makes me think to myself that theres no way he knew that himself and that hes just doing as someone has showed him a few minutes before.

However at one point or another, every survival expert has to be shown what to do i suppose...

I would say Chris Ryan if it was a short length of time, but Ray Mears if it was for ages.

I think Bear Grylls does know that stuff, i mean, Ray Mears knows tons, and what Bear shows us is always very similar so im sure he does know his stuff.

Of course Bear Grylls knows a lot about what he does, but it is a TV show after all...

I just had a quick look and two of the 'survival experts' credited are Kris Thoemke and Terry Moore, so he obviously has someone showing him what to do at times. Kris Thoemke is from Florida and was listed in the Everglades episode, which makes sense.

He spent 3 years in 21 SASR and the parachute accident where he broke his back was done on a civilian parachute jump. Just because he wears the beret does not make him a survival expert.

Ray Mears

He's that overweight he could just lie in a hole and live off his own body fat for a month.

If you ignore Rimmer, than definately Mears. Bear is trained for survival when the shit hits the fan but Mears has explored outdoor survival for pleasure. bear would probabyl find civilisation quicker, but only because Ray would spend the time making a house out of leaves, hunting wild boar and telling stories of survival to the indigeonous tribe he has befriended.

bear would look a right twat hunting fish with his bare hands while Mears sails past in a full size ship he'd carved out of wood.
