Im not trying to seem all big and clever. It was just a T-shirt with the www.yomp30.co.uk on the front and royal marine commando on the back. I didnt purposly wear that 1 to look the first T-shirt i saw.

I was given an RM t-shirt after passing POC. The other day after going to the gym I was mistaken for Royal by a guy from 1 Lancs.

However I wasn't selected for the batch so I'm still in the process of applying to join.

Should I be allowed to wear this t-shirt? Alfa - I'd be really gratefull if you could put your stamp of approval on this matter for me.

In my opinion no.

Maybe the Marines view these things differently than the Paras but when I was at Catterick we were always told that no ones a Paratrooper until they pass P Company and get their wings and if any Joe decided to walk round wearing a Para T-shirt I doubt anyone would have been happy to say the least.

At the end of the day it's just my opinion but I wouldn't wear something like that, because as you already stated, I would be mistaken for being something I'm not.

Difference being whether your just a bloke wearing a t-shirt or your a walt giving it charlie big-time in your Para Sky God t-shirt.

I also bought my dad a t-shirt that says 'ARMY be the best' with the A and Y crossed out.

Maybe I should tell him to stop wearing it as he hasn't ever done All Arms...

Personally i think you can wear what you want. If you are doing some phys to get fit to join the RM while wearing it, whats the problem? i could see some people getting pissed off if the shirt said "royal marines commando" as that would imply you have got your green lid, but a t shirt that just says "royal marines" doesnt really say anything does it?

Personally I wouldn't go out and buy one, however if I got one when on POC/PRMC, or as in this case a family member gave me one, I certainly would wear it. Its not buying a green beret on ebay and running around screaming ''I'm a f@#k hard nut commando'' it saying ''my dads a commando and I'm f@#k proud of him'', in my opinion thats a big difference. My dad used to bring shirts back from his work with their logo on, and I'ld wear it and no one would tell me I didn't have the right, I don't see this as any different.

Know I don't think people should go around pretending to be or implying they're something they're not. But wearing a POC/PRMC t-shirt when you have actually done a POC/PRMC is not claiming to have done something you haven't. Wearing t-shirts your dad brings back doesn't claim your a commando, your not pretending, your just claiming your dads a commando, which he is in this case.

And final point, his dad is a Royal, he has been there, he has done that, and he feels it appropriate for his son to wear t-shirts he gives him. Who are you to disagree???
