Hello everybody!
As my first post I'll introduce myself (whilst observing PERSEC). I'm Tinybloke and I'm in the RNR.
The reason for the subject title is around my situation. I started 2006 at 25 stone (I'm 6ft 7). This was rather a silly weight to be. My new years resolution was to loose enough weight to join the RNR (I must have been exceptionally drunk at the time). So without knowing what the target weight was (I guessed it might be a little under my current weight!) I started off.
The first 4 months I did the Atkins diet (Low carbohydrate) with which I lost 4 stone. I would reccomend this diet to people who are grossly overweight (Like I was) and only as a kick off. I then moved to calorie counting - if you work out that you need 12 calories for every pound in weight, you can work out your figure of calories you need to sustain your ideal weight - e.g. if you want to be 15 stone, then it's 14*15 (to give your weight in pounds) and then *12 = 2520 calories per day. Then start looking at the food you eat and count the calories. If you eat 2520 calories and you're 25 stone, then you're burning off 1680 calories per day - a pound of fat is 3000 calories - weight will just drop off.
So now we're almost in June 2007 - 18 months, I've just passed the AIB medical where I was 17st 4 - 4 pounds below my maximum allowable weight. The going was tough until I got into a routine (started going to the gym every week day at the beginning of January this year), and now I feel soo much better.
So in reality, if you have the dedication, your body will help you to loose weight - eat less and excercise more! It really works.
Sorry for the long first post.
