Running @ foundation - frequency, distance, duration, speed

Post by Dangermouse »

sorry if this has been asked before. But anyway, what type of running is expted during foundation in terms of frequency, distance/duration and speed. Will running be more like interval training or continuous?

Just thought i'd ask after seeing this video:

To be honest mate, that video looked like a warmup, gentle 8-9 mile pace at the beginning of a run, then the warmdown. I'm guessing from similar experience that an actual RM training run would be a lot faster, a lot hillier, have a lot more sprints, and generally be a lot less pleasant.

As for whether they will be intervals, steady pace, hills, blah blah blah: any and all of the above.

PRMC standard of fitness is what's required. If you've passed that, you're at the level you need to be to start Lympstone.

When I was in foundation (803trp) we done the PRMC, start RT 8 wees later and the only *official* run we did in foundation was a 3 miler. Evething else was MSC/Gymwork follow by either sprints ot repetative camp circuits.

Foundation is there to get guys up to the fitness required to commence the real graft of recruit training. It is also a time for both the recruits and the training teams to see if blokes have that little bit extra between their ears to be able to hack the course.

Also during the first few weeks it is not uncommen for blokes to decide that a life in the Corp is just not for them. Sometimes it is not the hard graft that blokes loath but the lifstyle. It was like that when I was in training 34 years ago and I dare say is still the same.

During my training blokes had the option to buy themselves out at 12 weeks and by heck a lot took up the option without hesitation!

I don't think this video is of week one. I thought all recruits were given a military grade 2 haircut on the first day?

Who cares what week it is!?!?! :o

Does it matter? Should it matter? Do most of us care? Because I don't!

And just what is a Military grade 2 haircut when it's at home then? I was in the Corp for 18 years and I've never, ever heard of a Military grade 2 haircut or any military grade haircut for that matter in my entire life!

Sorry but daft posts like this beggar believe they really do. It has nought to do with the content of this thread for starters.

its good to know that even if i am not a great runner i could be able/will be able to hopefuly survive the RT runs, sinse from what i hear if you can do PRMC 3 miler time then you will do ok in RT.

so im off to do 3 milers and hopefuly get better at running then the marines can hopefuly make me into a decent runner once i join.

p.s is it common to get slight/medium pain to the inner of your knee area?

dotn wana go doctors cos of a stupid thing, sinse i just started gettign into running and atm doing runs every day and finding atm i can do 1.5 miles in around 9.40-10 mins, though soem days i realy suck and cant run for more than 5 mins :(

wish there was a swimming test you had to do to pass prmc , cos il pass well good.

Well considering the original poster was asking if the running in the foundation stage of training mirrored that in the video he posted then I would say that yes it perhaps is important to find out what stage of training this is.

I didn't mean it to sound like a special haircut that only the military can issue. What I was referring to was the grade 2 (as in the number 2 grade on a set of hair clippers) as given to all new recruits on the first day of training.
Perhaps when you started training they didn't do this.

I would have thought that, as a moderator, you would have known better than to post personal attacks in public. Next time you feel like shooting someone down in your usual manner why not try a PM.

I replied on an open forum mainly because I'm sick and tired of PMing people about posts and stuff only to be ignored nine times out of ten.

If your wanting to join the Royal Marines then you had better get used to what you call personal attacks. I did not swear or throw abuse at you. I told you exactly what I thought of your post. As do all the other Moderators on this forum from time to time.

Surely an experienced poster such as yourself, would realise you cannot outwit a Moderator.
