RM look at life... aparently not

Post by Stokey_14 »

Went down to my local careers office today to inquire about a look at life course and according to the naval personal I spoke to the navy or marines don't do one.
The only reason I am saying this is because I think I saw someone on here say they went on a RM look at life course a while back. Not sure though. Just wondering weather they do run one and how to get on the course if they do?

Thanks

Stokey

If you were talking to a Marine i'm surprised they said they didn't know what RMAD was :-?

I went on one with the Infantry and it was excellent. Did a 3 miler then went to the FIBUA houses where we got a taste of the army (i.e. pressups, sit ups, unecessary running, all the good stuff :) ) then we learnt how to put up shelters and that. Got a couple of hours sleep then at around 1:00am we went for a recon exercise where we had to observe an 'enemy' camp and get information (needless to say we were all captured, i was made to walk into a tree whilst blindfolded ha). Then we got some proper sleep. Woken up around 6 and went to a simulated attack which involved wading through rivers and all that. Then on to the assault course which was excellent :)

Bear in mind this was with the army so a Marines one might be different.

There is... or so I have heard a royal marine at my local office but he's apparently a big marathon runner. The corps pays him to train and I’ve never bin in and seen him there only spoke to two different blokes from the Navy. they both said that the navy and marines don't offer anything like the armies look at life :-?
Could any on whose been on one please tell me how to try and get on one of these courses as I’m dieing to do one for my work experience...

Much appreciated

Prehaps you could try contacting the AFCO in the next town away from you, if you get me?
If there is an actual Marine there he may be able to get you sorted and on a course. If not a look at life (which i know they do) then a RMAD or one of a variety of courses the corps helps out with. I was sent on a 3 day course with a group of boxing clubs by my AFCO as they were off to CTC for some adventure training and marine fitness training.

I think I remember what happened on my 'look at life' day out. Having a go in the Vikings, paintball with the marines, looking at weapons, absailing anda alot of information. Definaly a lot of fun but there were a lot of schools there, and girls that just slowed down the process of everything meaning we couldn't do any rifle shooting even though they can't join anyway.

I think your getting that mixed up with 'meet the marines' day my simple friend.

There was definately a 'look at life' course down there just the other week.

P.S Stokey, you might want to get round your posts with spell check, they're painful to read.

Right I'll cheek my spelling now. It's not my strong point though... I am trying :)

I'll ask around with a few people I know and try and sort one of these 'look at life's' out thanks for clearing it up for me :D

I'd imagine it would be 10% field / weapon / sexy drills, 15% phys, and 75% ironing.

Then an extra 20% of marching around all day on a drill square and stamping for no particular reason other than to piss you off.

Then ironing.

Also, learning how to sleep when the fat bastard next door snores like a .50 cal on full auto.

Then ironing.

Lot's of ironing then... doesn't bother me, do all my own like a big boy 8) :P .
No but seriously as I'm dead set on joining up after collage I think a 'look at life' would be very beneficial and even maybe if it was on say a CV it may help to show that you've actively looked in to the corps and had a (be it very... very small) over view on what life is like in the Marines.

Dont the RMAD move around? My AFCO said there was one (or a look a life course, cant remember which) near me in Feb so I missed it. Maybe they dont hold them near you.

I'll have to look into that, I mean transport wouldn't be a problem if they do hold them in other parts of the country. Good old crew train station is only 15 minuets drive away so I can get almost anywhere via that.
I think I’m going to find my second nearest recruitment office and ask there if not maybe e-mail the royal navy/marine web site see what they say.
