Royal Marines Commandos Fitness & Survival Skills by James Watney is a book that while being nearly 20 years old, would still be quite useful for potential Royal Marines.

It gives some good advice on various subjects from fitness, to land navigation, to recommended gear (it's quite surprising to see how little prices have changed!).

It can often be found at second-hand book shops or on Ebay for a pound or two, and in my opinion it would be a couple of quid well spent.
