Well as far as my application goes so far, FAILED medical today - Hearing. For some reason my hearing isn't up to scratch so doc says I have one more go next week or else I'd better get looking for an alternative career.
I found the hearing test quite hard, especially as the room i was in was right next to a busy road. What i found was that the sounds came on every few seconds, the was a sort of rhythme, i could usually hear them anyway but i knew if id missed one.
Good luck on your next go anyway.

Open your mouth to minimise breathing noise, breathe slowly and evenly for the same reason, and close your eyes.
Good point, should have mentioned that, also make sure the headphones are on properly, my left ear was stickng out slightly and i couldnt hear as well until i adjusted it.

Get your ears flushed a few days before, I was on a medical a few years ago and they failed one guy. They took him out and flushed his ear drum with hot pressured water through a syringe type device. It improved his earing by about 15%
He said it hurt like hell but it got him through it. I can't remember the correct name for it, but someone on here will probably know.
Whatever you do, don't do it yourself, you could screw up your ears even more.
Had my ears syringed last year when i was abroad as caught ear infection from swimming pool, not too painful, just a strange sensation.
Thanks for the heads up though, I'll just keep yawning my way through the test, makes my ears pop and can hear tiny bit bitter. Hoipe for the best.
Cheers

When i did mine i did very well. I think closing your eyes and breathing slower will help, try to remain calm as all i could hear most of the time was my heart beating (i didnt have my eyes closed), but hearing your heart beating, muffling the "BOOOOOOOOOP" sound will only make it harder, especially as it gets lower and lower.
Good luck mate, really focus next time ok.
All the best.

You can either hear the tone or not. No amount of tips will get your through the test if your hearing is inadequate. The standard is set to assess your suitability for combat, it is there for your own safety.
What will you do if your beloved syringes are no where to be found in the middle of the desert?

Who took the jam outta your donut?
I was just saying I had my ears syringed because I had an infection and a build up of wax. I appreciate your point, and certainly wouldn't want to endanger myself, or others by having below standard hearing, I know that would be selfish and dangerous.
But I've never had problems with hearing, nor have family history of poor hearing. I just took the advice of the Doc and am re-taking my test.

Yes exaclty, so if you can hear the tone after having your ears syringed why on earth would you not do it. There is nothing wrong with your hearing when you have a build up of wax, you just need the wax removed, which can be done with ease.
Its a perfectly legitimate and very worthwhile suggestion.
Mate of mine was told he had the hearing of a sixty year old, he still passed the med. However this scared him sh!tless so he went and got it checked properly.
Turns out his hearing is spot on. What is all that lifting your hands up b0llocks anyway?
