BUY PROPER RUNNING SHOES!!!

I dont know how you are broken into running in boots when in the corps or what fancy soles you can buy for them, but all I know is that from running in crappy trainers I managed to get myself a re-occuring ankle injury which put me out for 5 months (still cant run properly now - seeing a physio)

I honestly think that you do get what you pay for - there is some real engineering goes into a good running shoe, its not just a bit of rubber tied around your foot with some old bungee cord!!

The professional running analysis is obviously going to be the best root for you, but if you dont want to do this there is a test you can do which involves putting your wet foot on the floor and looking at the patch it leaves to determine (very roughly) whether you over-pronate etc. Its actually available on the 'Runners World' website I beleive.

Anyways, Good luck xx

I have a pair of Brooks Adrenaline, costy but bloody brilliant If I'm honest. Has helped me prevent shin splints I used to get when running in old every day trainers.

The insole is very good, its shaped and designed to fit your foot, with a shaped base to support the arch of your foot.

As I said, there not cheap, perhaps look on ebay for them? heres the link anyway:

Yer, I wear Brooks Beast, great shoes that really sorted my tendency to get leg problems.

Also, they are costly, but I managed to wear mine for a whole year of running (instead of the standard 6 months before replacing them) until they started to lose support.

I use the Army PT-03's, they seem alright to me, although i havent managed to use them much since i bought them as physio has kept me off running due to shin problems (not caused by these trainers though). You can order them for about £40 on the British Army website from a physical training shop in Aldershot.

I've found that the Saucony Hurricane brand has always been fantastic. Also the new Hurricane 9 was launched April 1st and really is a great runners shoe. Great fit and plenty of protection for road running races. Also works really well for cross country races.

Proper running shop is the way to go .Only way to be sure .Not the cheapist but you only get one pair of feet. When I did the london marathon went to running shop .Everything else hurt by the end but feet were ok
think I had asciscs but its what work for you rather than brand.

Thanks for all the advice - I've just bought some £55 New Balance shoes from this local shop (I'm hoping you get what you pay for). The guy had me run across this mat he had hooked up to a computer and everything :D Now I'm glad I didn't just go to JJB...
