Yeah, Pirbright's OK - easy to get to etc, Pudsey & Catterick take much longer, so the weekends are pretty action-packed and intense coz' they leave for London early. A lot of travelling in 48 hours!!

I mean to ring up 10 Company at some point to get some clarity on this but since I’m here...
I'm currently with 3rd battalion Princess of Wales Royal Regiment down in Brighton. I’ve been in about a year and a half with previous on and off reserve training prior to this. I’m currently still at uni doing an MA which I finish in September, at which point I intend to use the limbo time between uni and full time work to get myself into an elite reserve unit.
What I’m wondering is whether I will have to complete the whole cadre (not that I really mind) or just CIC/P-coy? Obviously I’m already Infantry trained (and am pretty fit) and I’m about to be Javelin Operator trained (in about a week and a half’s time), I’m also on a land rover course in a couple of months.
I was originally gonna apply to get on P-coy with my present unit but I figured I might as well make it worth something and join 4-para.
What are the chances?

Cheerz for any help, even though I think I know what your gonna say (phone them :) ).

There are a few guys on the current cadre who are trained soldiers, most of them are expected to come on all of the weekends, as well as CIC/P Coy. Unless you've already done P Coy or equivalent then I expect you'll have to do the whole lot, although they'll be less strict on making you turn up to every single weekend.

Yep, think the rule is that unless your training was Parachute Regiment training (or, you know, the grey lot), then you have to go through it again and learn it right.

But you will likely be given more slack than us neophytes, like Jim says.

Statistic,

I was a recruit at IV Para a few years ago, originally from London, I lost my job, and moved away at the end of recruit training (passed weekend 8 ) and am now re-joining TA (RA). I did all the weekends as stated and you will need to do them all too. For several reasons.

1. TABS on sundays - you need the practise
2. 2 milers on sat - you need the practise
3. They'll insist you do them anyway.
4. They'll want to make sure your name tabs are off and you dont use a sling!

As a consolation they wont expect you to do CIC again.

You can blister up the M23 to mitcham road barracks in Croydon.

One of the corporals there was also 3 PWRR (Queens Regt), and there was a guy from Brighton on my cadre so the travel has been tried and tested. Get to 10 Coy in croydon on a wednesday night... they'll answer all your questions..

Good luck.
