Airborne bergen

Post by Banburyboy. »

Hello chaps, just wondering if anyone had one of the old Airborne bergens lying around and would consider selling it. Just to get some tabbing done for a bit of exercise.Anyway if anyone could help, either PM me or just let me know a sort of price range you might be looking for. Obviously P+P would be no problem just to clear that end up.

Thanks fellas.

Why oh why do you lads think that you HAVE to put something on your back to go "tabbing"???
Are you in training to join up??
If you are, then you will quite probably do more harm than good by thinking that putting weight on your back will make you fitter, tougher, stronger.

You will have plenty of opportunity to go "tabbing" with more than just a bergan on your back when/if you get into your chosen Regt/Corps etc

Good lord man, is that really necessary?
Some of us remember using those things first time round and still have two parallel grooves across our lumbar area to show for the effort!
It may be an object of peculiar nostalgia among some, but is poorly balanced and crudely padded in comparison with modern design.
If you feel you must run with weight (not advisable), try a more modern design, with a hip belt to take some of the strain.
Must dash, I'm out for a tab with my old A-frame canvas bergen!

Brillant hardwareing bag .Frame from hell .Wouldn't be my choice of
bergan.Kit monster .co.uk have them if you must.
Last time I saw someone use one was a decidely odd officer who used to
run round basra palace with one on his back and issuse trainers on !
No one advises tabbing as preperation for basic training.Or even for
fitness training more often than once or twice a week .Your better off
getting a decent civillian rucksack and doing some walking and getting an idea about map reading etc .
Maybe an overhill stab but not ready to hang
my kit in yet .If not quite death from the flanks
certainly a nasty fright.:)

I think the original poster is an old sweat being nostalgic, i doubt a new recruit would know what an airborne bergan is.

Sandy, is it out of nostalgia or comfort, because I found it a nightmare when i had to borrow a PTI's SAS bergan once, it sits too high, is an odd sqaure shape witch makes it swing when you march and that frame is a nightmare!

I think you're probably right, either that or he's a collector.

Even though the PLCE bergan isn't the most comfortable, it's light years ahead of the airborne, and GS bergans.

I've seen an updated 'airborne bergan' for sale recently, don't know if it's any better than the original though.

Its a new cordura bag on the old frame if they could have made a comfy frame for it might have been intrested. As it is think the gpmg tripod is a more ergonmic back pack  .

Oh I don't know, you could get some pretty impressive bergan scars to show off at the pub.

the new Airborne Bergen. Derived from the classic SAS / PARA Bergen, the airborne Bergen features original frame, shoulder straps and back support. The body of the Bergen is made from 1000 Denier texturised nylon in DPM. NOTE;VERY POPULAR ITEM,FIVE WEEK WAITING TIME AFTER ORDERING.

Cheers for all the replys fellas. From what i have read it seems clearly obvious to stay away from an airborne bergan, so i have invested in the new PLCE model.
Just to clear one thing up, i was aiming to get on the hills rather than pounding the streets with weight (obviously not the best of ideas). Just for a bit of training for the TA.

Thanks. Ed

Mate if you are training for 21 then dont start going over the hills at this moment as a lot of people fail selection due to injuries. When you go for the induction day you will be issued a structured training programe to follow.

Some people do .I guess if you carry it long enough you get used to it
certainly works better with webbing than anything else .As stab never wore it long enough to get used to it .
