Interview.
Be smart, wear a shirt and tie if you have one. I did and got through ok, another chap didn't but I think that may have been on the numeracy test. Always try and make a good impression be polite. Polish your shoes as well but chances are he/she won't even notice.
The questions will depend on you age, background, school and family. I am 30 so he wasn't really going to ask me much about school considering it was 14 odd years ago!
I didn't get asked any questions on RM history. I guess if you are younger they may throw in a few just to see how interested you are.
Know your RM history, badge and maybe a couple of awarded VC's. Although I doubt they will go too far on this and if you don't know something be truthful.
Be cool and honest and you will be fine. Do not lie or bullsh!t them and as long as you are not a total plank you will be fine and remember they have seen millions of potential recruits previously. Probably the main question you want to ask yourself is why you want to be in the RM/RMR as this is a definite!
Are you going for RMR or just posting this in the wrong forum?
Welcome aboard and let us know how you get on?
Cheers

Well...
i've done the eye test, handed it in and got my interview within a week.
They asked about all my immediate family background. Jobs, relationships, what we all do together.
They asked about my personal attributes and acheivments from school. All about my working life in detail from leaving school. Every job, every reason to leave or change. They asked nothing about present day troops in deployment or any history just basically asked what was the commando tests and what sort of commitment i would make. Basically if i was asked to go somehwre would i say yes or no.
They wrote in detail about my sports and present personal fitness.
They asked all this rapid fire, so you dont really get a chance to think. that way the honest answers come out, which is fine ive nowt to hide. Even though under the pressure i got the re-wire a plug question wrong..haha.
to the reply" dont ever come near my house!!"
interview done and the next morning letters were already on my referee's doormats. So its moving quick. So yes its medical, then the run a mile in ten mins or so, which to be fair my dad could do! an im in.
So what sort of stuff takes place in holding troop, does it get bigger closer to the selection weekend?

Cheers for the run down. I am sure this will be helpful to others in the future.alby wrote:

Right then Holding Troop…
Holding Troop will be progressive and will get harder the closer you get to selection. Your first night will probably be spent form filling. I thought the AFCO process was lengthy document wise. You have seen nothing. After this you will be sworn in probably by the OC or the 2IC then you will take a trip to stores and get issued with basic kit, boots, socks, trousers, shirt, PT t-shirt, belt and Nod beret. You will then be briefed on how to wear your kit, creases, folds ect
If there is time and more than likely not you will crack on with some Phys.
Phys
RMFAs, BFTs, circuits of Press/pull/sit ups, burpees, bleep tests, rope climbing, regains, piggy back races, firemans carries, forward rolls down hill, crawling on your stomach on your hands and knees. During one phys session out in the park the PTI caught someone cutting a corning on a run and everyone had to hands and knee it for about 50 metres like ‘dogs!’ it was funny but hard! And I nearly passed out on the forward rolls!
Back to it, basic swim tests, multi-gym circuits, athletic circuits, football, hockey, orientation runs. Everything really, you will have a great time and make some good friends. And catching up afterwards in bar or pub is quality!
You may even get to sit in with the Phase 1 chaps when they are having lectures.
How long until the selection weekend?
Sounds great, cant wait for troop to begin.
The holding troop is feb, and the selection weekend is not untill sep, so ive a long time training with holding troop. My fitness is of a high level already but i know they are gonna keep pushing me further anyway, so i intent to put everything into every phys at holding.
cheers for all your help.
