changing from POC to PRMC

Post by Jiml mix it »

i have been going through the whole application procees and ive had my medical etc, my POC is on 21st but i have to go for a second medical within this time, i have been thinking really hard about going for officer and i was wondering if you could change to PRMC at this stage, ive been thinking that going for POC and AIB may be to much to ask from me and i'd stand a much better chance just going for PRMC. anyone been in the same situation and would it be possible to change?

As far as i know you cannot change from POC to PRMC without doing most of the paperwork again, this is because the people dealing with the recruitment are different. All the stages of officer entry is dealt with by the Admiralty Interview Board down in Gosport (I think) and the recruit entry is done by your local AFCO.

I would do the POC if I were you, as you have come quite a way. I did a POC in september, which I failed, but I am going back for a PRMC in febuary (better prepared).

If you pass you can always decline an offer at the AIB and go for recruit entry, I've heard of people not having to do a PRMC with a POC pass. Or if you fail just do a PRMC, either way it will open your eyes to the physical requirements and give you a general idea of the whole layout

You could try doing the POC and a few days after asking to go recruit. Don't leave it for a long time like i did as you'll have to do the whole process again. Best thing to do is ask your AFCO.

I think Jim means he's brickin it and wants to change pronto

Have a word with your AFCO and see what he thinks first!!!

Second even if you fail, as long as your scores aren't bluddy awful you've probably done enough to convince the training staff you can pass the PRMC so won't have to go through it.

Personally even if i was good enough on POC to go through to recruit training (non-officer like) i'd still ask if i could do PRMC before hand just so i know i went through what the other lads did if you know what i mean - in for a penny in for a pound

Hope it helped! And GOOD LUCK !!!
I don't really know what to say here - apart from GOOD LUCK to everyone going to PRMC or POC - remember: people here have been there and come out alive, pass or fail....its YOUR EFFORTS that count!!!

But the POC is similar to the PRMC but harder, as with the whole officer training, so what would be the point? If you could hack the POC you could hack the PRMC, thats the whole point in having higher standards for the officer, so that the marines know their officers are capable of doing the same things as them, plus some.

It would be better to meet the lads you were most likely to be spending the next 8 months with rather than starting from scratch.

Thats what i mean - doing your PRMC with the guys you'll be with
I mean i'd feel wierd turing up to my troop not knowing anybody because i did the POC instead of the PRMC the other fellas did ya know - i just think it would help your mindset and getting to know everybody better...

Or did you mean the application process - i heard that they are done by different people so it could take ages again, unless you can get them to fast track you...

But whats the chance that those you meet on your PRMC would be in your troop once you'd completed officer training? At most I imagine it would be like 1 person out of your troop, you'ld still have to get to know the others from scratch.

Sorry  I had got confused, I thought you meant doing PRMC then POC then officer training and then joining a troop. I see you mean don't do POC then switch to RT but do PRMC then go RT; sorry totally me not reading all the posts properly in order.
