Must be annoying but it's not the end of the world - what other career options do you have in mind?

Like I mentioned already, i'm already a joiner, and have looked into joining (no pun) the fire service but got distracted away from the fire brigade when I realsied I wanted to join the marines.
I don't think, or at least I hope that the eye restrictions won't be as hard for the fire service as they are for the marines.
Totally differant choice of career I know but I have always wanted an active job where there's a little danger on the line, god knows why i'm a joiner then..lol
Tree surgery was another thing I got into but the company went bankrupt, maybe it's just my bad luck following me.
Well it's out of my hands now, maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

From what I have read wortheres it differs throughout each firebrigade, and some take on people who have had laser vision and some don't.
I don't think it has to be 20-20 but the main reason I failed my Marines eyetest was because of my right eye, both eyes together i'm not bad,it is important for them because of the right handed SA80 rifle. The sight on it can only be used with your right eye, which you probably already knew?!
Anyways, I will have to look more into detail to find out what the crack is.

Join the club. In all i wrote to: Army, Navy (stating interest in the marines), the Raf and believe it or not the mod itself. I just wanted to join the military at any cost.yet_mae wrote:I don't think it has to be 20-20 but the main reason I failed my Marines eyetest was because of my right eye, both eyes together i'm not bad,it is important for them because of the right handed SA80 rifle. Knowing that if your right eye was your left eye, and your left eye was your right eye, you'd be able to join is quite hard to swallow. I can only hope that before im too old, the government moves to the 21st century and allows for firing a weapon from both shoulders - particularly when the future of modern warfare appears to be largely urban (at the minute anyway). However with recent trials of the SA80 being largely a success (and it not being due for scrapping until around 2015-2020... im not holding my breath.
In the mean time, i'm at uni doinf sports science. The lecture side is cr*p, but when you're wired up to a treadmill with all sorts of wires and electrodes hanging off you, whilst finding out more about you than you ever knew, it can be enjoyable. I suppose what im saying is that although you wish you were something else, you have to get on with it and find something else to do.
I still say that one of the worst parts of not being able to join, is never knowing if I could hack the training. I'd like to think I would, but as with every wannabe... i just don't know.

am gutted for ya mate theres nothin worse than not being able to reach your goals because of somthing that you have no control over.
just out of interest,im left handed and so fire a weapon from my left shoulder using my left eye, would i be made to do it with the right????cos like other things such as pool and batting etc it just feels unnatural to me and i struggle doing these things right handed.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour'

I know how you guys feel about thisI still say that one of the worst parts of not being able to join, is never knowing if I could hack the training.
My time wasn't very long but I am glad I did it, it's an experience I think a lot of people could do with being pushed outside your limits and doing things you would never get the chance to, like shooting guns!
Hope you can sort it out, if not look at some adventure races, that is really good way to push yourselves to the limit.
