The making of a Royal Marines Officer DVD

Post by Artist »

Mentioned this a few months ago. I can get my hands on a 19 year old BBC programme all about the making of a Royal Marines officer. So it's out of date but the training regime is still the same. It may give some of you an insight into just how much shite you have to go though to earn that Green Lid.

As it is I have been in comms with an Oppo who has a first generation VHF copy of the programme also a fellow site member sent me a DVD of the Series. Now: I can send the DVD to a Oppo who can wack them out for not a lot of money or: I can wait and get a better quality copy from the VHS tape.

So long story short in the next few weeks I should have copies of the programme available to whoever wants a copy. All it will cost is P & P plus the cost of the blank CD. My next text on this subject will be to tell you all that it is ready for posting. So when that day happens then please PM me your address's. Just don't try to jump the gun and text me now or I will put whoever texts prior to me saying it's ready at the bottom of the list. Ok?

Nice work.

How about saving yourself the agro of posting to lots of people, stick the whole thing on a file sharing site and post the link up here.

I'm sure the mods could make it a sticky as well. Just a thought.
Aways look on the bright side of life.

Yeah thats a good idea. Nice one Artist! 8)

Not to be annoying but i see all of these things being posted, especially on YouTube, and if i was some muggy terrorist c*nt id be noting down everything i can about training and stuff from these videos, makes me wonder whether they actually do, because in a way we are still feeding them information. :-?

Just a thought.

Yeah AJtothemax, they probably know most things about us and how we train. although how are they suppose to let civvies know how to become a royal...

If there is not, there should be some inside training, like stuff that is not mentioned to civvies, that way the enemy will not know how we conduct some things.

anyway that was just a thought that came into my head when reading AJtothemax's post.

I dont think terrorists can learn a lot from watching a load of YOs sleeping in a wet, cold and flooded ditch or on a speed march! They are more interested in locations etc and as this video is pretty old things may have changed.

Plus the information is widely avalible anyway, so they could just as easily get it from other sources.

All sorted!

Oppo's copied a first generation VHS recording of the programme onto a DVD. So come the new year I will have some run off for anyone who wants a copy. Just please don't all rush at once. A few years ago the same programme did the rounds of all who wanted to see it on the site and then one bloke would watch it, then send it onto the next bloke.

So if anyone has the gear to produce copies then that would save a lot of hassle as well. OK?

I have never posted on the board, mainly because all the information I need is in the sarech feature. . .

Anyway, I would really appreciate a copy of the DVD and would be willing to do 10-20 copies/put it on the internet, for people to download, if it were to come my way.

Obviously would need a little donation for the postage.

Just an idea.

if it gets ripped to some sort of video file ie/ wma etc then sum1 could up it using something like yousendit and we can all just click on the link and download it to our pcs and that would save all the hassle with buying discs and posting them :D

Artist,
Any idea where the DVD's up to at the moment? I'm guessing no-one's managed to upload it yet? If there isn't anyone on the case I'll be happy to do it...

Cheers and all the best

Just a sad afternote to the DVD of, "The Makings of a Royal Marines Officer"

The young man who was awarded the Sword of Honour, went on to become a Lt. Col. He also became OC SBS. He had a very unfortunate diving accident in Norway and lost his life.

He was a very popular man in the SBS world and is very sadly missed.

None of this is a state secret as it was all published in an obituary in the Daily Telegraph.

The funeral was something else. I have never witnessed anything like it.
