Hi, just spoke to AFCO today who told me im starting Basic on 7th Dec. I did my RSC back in July, and since then I was told I wasnt going in til May, so I backed off a bit. Im not particularly unfit at the mo but Im not anywhere near as fit as I hoped I'd be. Am i a bit fooked? Going to Lichfield in Signals. Little help?? :o

As long as you have the right attitude and you have it between the ears you should be fine. For the Signals I'd imagine brains will be more important than brawn.

Just get out this week and get some miles under your feet and you should be fine, especially if as you say, you're not unfit. The training staff will get you up to speed once you're there as long as you're willing to put the effort in.

Good luck mate.

You've learnt your first lesson of being in the Army "be flexible".

They will probably re-test you again as soon as you get there and aslong as you pass the 1.5mile in 10:30 or it may be longer for the sigs you will be alright. In the meantime you better get running mate.
:D

Anyway at least your going to get PAID Christmas leave.

Does anyone know the other intake dates for lichfield, i was hoping to go to lichfield in January, but i got taken into hospital for a week due to my heemigloben levels (low blood count) being so low, i go in for another check up on monday coming. I was intending to go straight to the careers office in the new year as ive seen my fitness improve. My Girlfriend was talking about going on holiday in summer, and i thought the intakes for the Army where january and September only but talking to one of my mates he says there areintakes all the time. If anyone could advise, sorry to hijack the post, but saves starting a fresh one. Thanks.

They're not going to be expecting you to be superfit anyway mate. I don't mean to sound like I'm putting the Signals down but fitness isn't their primary reason for being. If you're reasonably fit or at least not unfit and you put the effort in when you start basic then your fitness levels will improve quite quickly.

Because of the trade you have chosen they won't expect as much from you as they would if you were joining the Infantry for example so they won't be expecting you to turn up being able to knock out 60 press-ups in as many seconds or run 4min miles.

You'll be fine just approach it with the right attitude and you'll be ok.

Yeah but most of them were probably going for Infantry or Paras and so would need to be that bit fitter.

If you did your run in 10:20 you should be fine and I would be willing to bet that there will be more than a few who aren't as fit as you.

IIRC the BFT time for none combat arms is 12:30min so you're well under that.
