After basic

Post by harri_man »

I've just got back from my Ammo Tech careers advisory board, with a full recommendation. I understand this won't really have much affect on whether i pass to become an Ammo Tech or not, just their opinion. This question is really aimed at AT but others may know the answer!

If once i've gone through basic (hopefully succesfully), and i don;t pass the AT selection board, will they then offer me another job in the Logistics Corps or can i choose from any, because i've kind of got alot of hopes on becoming an AT!?

Slip this in to, any tips/tricks of the trade for basic training?

Well tips for basic training:

Do what your told.

don't piss people off.

Keep your running fitness up during the last few weeks by going to the gym and running in spare time (i found that as we started tabbing, we stopped running so my last run time was slower, not that it really matttered).

Dont talk, fidget etc whilst on parade.

If you understand things the first time it makes everything easier.

everything is easier if you are fit.

embrace living in the field or it will be miserable as hell when you go on ex, even though your not going to be an infantryman learn to love it.

enjoy it, because otherwise it will be a lot harder.

make some really close friends you can confide in and rely on.

keep your room, locker and block squared away in case of random inspections.

keep your best book up to date

wear a watch.

stand to attention when talking to people (unless they are same rank) as it shows respect and some corporals can be really fussy about it in training, salute at officers and dont talk out of turn.

learn the national anthem as you'll sing it twice (we did) and pissing the padre off isn't a good idea.

give best effort on all fitness, push yourself as hard as you can and you'll reap the benefits (and PTI's may like you a little bit more)

LEARN THE MARKSMANSHIP PRINCIPLES ASAP as well as 6 CORE VALUES. I got major brownie points with my platoon captain because i learned things before other people. of learn the chemical safety rule as well.

Don't spend all you money on chocolate, drinks and sweets in the NAAFI. I wasted nearly £500 over the course of training on crap.

thats about all i can think of. any specifics just ask.

And i'm not a walter BTW, i can show you pics of my pass off, show you the soldier's medal i got etc. I left to go to college but am rejoining (although am joining RMC) when i finish college.
