Commando dagger in paras??
I was under the impression that people from other branches who have completed the AACC had to remove thier dagger + beret once returned to thier parent regiment as they're no longer attached 3 Cdo. But thats only what i've read on this forum.bigdog wrote:I know a former marine serving in the army who wears his dagger. He is not serving in 3 Commando brigade. As far as im aware its for Commando trained personnel and once you have it its yours forever.
yeah i was in his first platoon (my second) and had a few mates in his second platooon, top bloke, para wrote:I passed out a few years ago so I wasn't in deop with him, mcmANUS?nipper wrote:yeah i knew a lad that was a ex marine and he didnt wear his dagger but did get fast tracked to the platoon ahead and he was only 18/19. top bloke

What? He had already served in the Marines and was now going for Para, but still only 19 tops? He maybe good but does have a tendencie to get bored easy?nipper wrote:yeah i was in his first platoon (my second) and had a few mates in his second platooon, top bloke, para wrote:I passed out a few years ago so I wasn't in deop with him, mcmANUS?nipper wrote:yeah i knew a lad that was a ex marine and he didnt wear his dagger but did get fast tracked to the platoon ahead and he was only 18/19. top bloke

Don't get me wrong I'm not doubting you Nipper, just curious. There was a time up and till recently where someone could join the Army at 17 and go on active service unless it was to Northern Ireland where you had to be at least 18. From memory I think there where were a couple of lads killed in the Falklands who were only 17.nipper wrote:no he was in the marines, but they wouldnt let him go on tour because of this age so he left so when he was in civi street he got bored and joined the paras ,
I thought that was more or less irrelevant for the Marines as you had to be at least 18 to join, unless you went into the band. So you are saying this feller joined the Royals at 17 got his Green Lid and all the necessary got posted to one of the Commandos (40 commando for instance) weren't allowed to go on tour because he was under 18, so left? Got bored with civillian life so joined the Paras? And yet is still only 18/19?
I say again I'm not trying to be funny just curious and wanting to confirm that I have got that right.

Are you training at the moment or ex mob?
Just curious
You can join the RM at 16, and have been able to for a fair while as far as i was aware in what used to be a junior troop??? Think they stayed in training a little while longer, however now the 16 year olds join the same troop in training as any other would and follow the same course and its been like that for a fair while.Des wrote:Don't get me wrong I'm not doubting you Nipper, just curious. I thought the government ruling for the whole of the armed forces in Britain did not allow anyone under 18 to go in to a combat zone. May have changed since the falklands though i guess.
Rompton,
Your minimum service be it 3 and half or four years only starts once you reach your 18th birthday so i believe. So if you join at 16, you still have to serve that minimum once you reach 18...ie it starts from that point on. However at the same time if under 18 i think you can leave at any time, but i,m not entirely sure, i think i have heard this though.
