Weapons Question...sorry

Post by Goy »

Hello,

Sorry for asking this but I have used the search and have come up with nothing.

Anyway, cut to the chase, why do regular forces use the SA80 and SF use the M16???

I would appreciate any replies, it is something that has bugged me for a while.

Cheers, Goy

They don't use the M16.

The standard army individual weapon is (among other reasons) not as reliable or as versatile as the individual weapon currently employed by SF.

Jesus! No wonder they're the best!

UKSF use lots of different weapons such as the Diemaco the HK MP5 and the Barratt sniper rifle to name just a few.

Basically I believe they will use whatever weapons are best suited to their objectives.

Western SF can get their hands on any firearm they want and is right for the objective.Sometimes they have to go undercover and use the Kalashnikov series to blend in but mostly they use the M4A1 Carbine because it is such a good allround weapon for nearly any situation-fires 5.56mm, adjustable stock, easy to modify and apply goodies like ACOG sights and reflex sights on the rail piece etc. flexible, easy to use etc.

Tha special forces use what they need .Tradtionally used m16 230
when regular forces had slr . And when Sa80 came along no grenade
launcher available so purchase of diemaco c7 became nesscary as the m16s wore out .
Now sa80 a2 works and has a grenade launcher for it .Guess it will be hard to justify buying more diemacos .
Maybe an overhill stab but not ready to hang
my kit in yet .If not quite death from the flanks
certainly a nasty fright.:)

blend in?
a fairly well built group of white guys walking round carrying any two handed weapon are not blending in.
if they were to go undercover they would have concealed weapons.

i doubt there is any real standard issue.
they choose what they want, and different members carry different weapons, for maximum flexibility.
its not the army, they dont dump some kit in front of you and say "ok, go kill hitler", pretty much if they want it, they get it for the mission.
its often seen as a plus for joining SF, the fact you can be running round on a mission with more then several hundreds of thousands of pounds of kit between you.

They get what is required to complete the mission.
