Re: Bleep test
You should get simply be trying to get as high a score as you can.GATES wrote:what should i be able to run the bleep test in before i got for training???
i can do 10.2 but i'm thinking i will need it about 13?
GATES
You won't "need" to get level 13, although obviously you should want to get at least that if not more, as not everyone will be getting that. When I did it the other year I got level 13 and there was only one other lad who got higher, the average was probably round Level 11/12.
Basically everything is best effort when you go to Depot, ie the staff will be more impressed by someone who gives absolutely everything they have to get level 12 etc.. than they will by someone who gets a higher level without breaking a sweat or putting any effort in.

Well considering they were all Parachute Regiment recruits it's not that suprising as anyone serious about joining the Regiment know's that you have to be very fit before you even get there.DivineIntervention wrote:Jesus. You Poms have impressive aerobic itness.11/12 in the beep test as an average?Jesus that's spectacular!

Plus believe me none of us felt spectacularly fit after the Paras had put us through our paces there's HUGE difference between being civvy fit and military fit and that goes double for Para Depot.

The Vo2 bleep test is used to monitor the development of your maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max).
First you need to measure out 20 meters and mark the start/ end points.
The Vo2 bleep test is run between these two points.
Run from one side to the other making sure that our foot crosses the line before the bleep, if you cross the line before the bleep you must wait untill it goes again before running back.
The bleep gets progressively faster and you will have to constantly increase your pace to make the marker on time.
If you fail to reach the other side before the bleep you will be given a warning, fail to reach the line a second time and you are withdrawn from the test, your score is the last level that you sucessfully achieved.
Sounds more complicated than it is, all you are doing is running back and forth, faster and faster untill you reach a point where you cant keep up and you think your going to die.
Good luck, its a killer the first time but improving your VO2 score becomes quite addictive.
