Burning Throat

Post by RS250-Squid »

Sorry if it's been posted before - I did search.

I'm spending a lot of time running these days, and one thing I can't get away from is after a while, maybe 2 miles of running, I get the typical really bad burning throat.
Now I quit 10-a-day smoking about 5 weeks ago and my health has been improving, and I'm drinking plenty of fluids, but this burny-throat type thing is really affecting my running.

I'd imagine a lot of people have had experience of this, while others claim to not know what i'm talking about. It's something I've always had (i used to smoke when I was in the TA too) so I don't know whether it's smoking related or just normal.

Does anyone know if this eventually goes away?

I don't know, I can't remember the last time I've had acid indigestion.
I suppose it's just where my throat gets really dry, it just feels like it's burning, like I badly need a drink.

Not heard of that one! You might try to do a search on google - I've had some problem with my eustation tube (ear) and found some interesting answers. If worried to talk to your GP.

I had a problem like this a while back for quite some time, everytime i exercised my throat seemed sticky and i had problems swallowing (felt like swallowing barbed wire). Went to the doc's and got told it was a viral infection. Which was brought on by the fact i kept exercising through the flu.

The outcome, 2 days of anti-biotics and it was cleared up!

I'd get it checked though RS250-Squid if you havn't already (I ain't no Doc), the sooner you do the sooner it will be cleared up, the sooner you can get back to enjoying your exercise.

I've found before when coming back to running from a break my throat burns, but it feels like a cold rather than hot. I don't get it now but every time ive started a running program i've had the same senation.

I paid plenty of attention to it when running today - it didn't seem anywhere near as bad. I think it was probably something to do with getting back into running again, as it does seem to be improving :).

When you work hard hard and experience forced breathing especially in cold weather the back of your throat dries out and the air hitting against the back of your throat may be whats causing the sensation. i get this all the time the only thing i found to help is sips of water whilst running.
