Laser eye surgery...

Post by AlfaB »

I want to join the RMR, and would have to have corrective eye surgery. Anyone know the official stance on this, I know the army (well sas(r) from some lit they sent me) allow certain types.

Secondly, would they know if you've had it done or is it just a matter of reading the chart?

Hello mate, hopefully someone with more knowledge on eye sight requirements for RM/RMR will be able to answer your question. My eye test was quite comprehensive, not just a chart. Can't remember the pass/fail mark, although I do remember something about -0.25 in my left eye which is not bad apparently?

Hold up, just found this on another site from a Google search:

"The actual eye requirements for the RM are quite low, essentially you can pass at 6/36 both eyes as long as you are 6/6 corrected."

I have no idea WTF this means or if this guy is correct or not, like I said maybe someone in the know can give some input. But if this makes sense to you, is your eyesight worse than this?

On the RMR good shout, it is good fun which detachment are you looking to join?

All the best
