Recipes

Post by Prm »

Afternoon gents,

It's my belief that one of the most important things to have during training is a healthy diet, the right amount of this and that can prove to be a boost to anyone's training schedule. So I thought it would be interesting if we could perhaps have a 'Recipes' section of the forums (or a sticky  ), where people could post recommendations for members of the forums to use in their daily routine, preferably something that only takes a couple of minutes to make.

Just an Idea. :D

OK guys here's a fairly simple one, I usually take this after a weights sesh, has a mixture of simple and complex carbs, plenty of protein and enough fat which will help boost testosterone.

Utensils:
Blender

Ingredients:
Two(2) Bananas
400ml Milk (semi skimmed)
Three(3) Whole Eggs
One(1) Tea spoon Flaxseed Oil

Simply blend together and enjoy, lovely and creamy.

If you would prefer a higher ratio of complex carbs, simply substitute your run of the mill yellow bananas for slightly greener ones.
Adding Five(5)grams of Creatine to it is also a good idea.

The following nutritional breakdown is only a rough guide, but it will give you the general idea:

Energy - 417 k/cal
Protein - 34.2 g
Carbs - 20 g
Fat - 24.4 g

Sorry I havn't included the breakdown of simple and complex carbs or written the amount of saturated fat, if anyone is interested I could always do it.

I've got a few more, but I will trickle them in, I don't want to be seen as hogging the thread!

Cheers

Oh and Bitty, standby for a PM on weight gain, I'll send it as soon as I have a few minutes, although if there is a general concensus that it would be usefull to a number of people I will post a bit of an essay on this thread

Not very gormet...

melt a banana in the microwave and toast two slices of brown bread for a nice warm hit of slow release and fast release energy.

Ideal for post workout recovery or pre training energy hit.

A good book for recipes, it also gives the shopping lists, for energy, recovery and well anything to do with training is "Fighting Fit" by Adrian Weale, it also has some good workouts to juggle about abit with, i'd advise you to get it.

That recipe was suggested to me recently actually, i know an 90 year old (ex RAF) who is currently running, since leaving the forces infact. He said this is a tried and tested method which works extremely well. The only thing i hadnt heard of added, was the Oil.

Just out of interest.. what does it taste like?

Just tastes of milky banana really!

I've heard adding a tea spoon of honey is good too. Gives a simple sugar hit.

As far as raw eggs and salmomella goes, you would be very unlucky to be afflicted by it in Britain. After a large highlight of the risks in 1988, all British chickens are vaccinated against it and this is shown by the "lion quality" mark on egg boxes. In a study conducted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in 2004, out of 280,000 eggs, none were found to be contaminated with the salmonella bacterium. However, only 85% of eggs sold in the UK are from the UK and therefore hold the Lion Quality seal, and if you are as good at your maths as I am then you will realise that that leaves 15% of eggs sold in the UK that are imported, often from Spain, a country that doesn't have a vaccination programme. So basically it is really quite safe to eat raw eggs as long as they have that seal.

Eggs do contain a type of cholesterol found in many foods, called dietary cholesterol. Eggs, liver, kidneys and prawns are higher in dietary cholesterol than other foods. But the cholesterol we get from our food has much less effect on the level of cholesterol in our blood than the amount of saturated fat we eat. If you are eating a balanced diet, you don’t need to cut down on eggs (or kidneys and prawns), unless your GP or dietitian has advised you to do this. There is also no need to limit your weekly egg intake.

Hope this helps

Not my forte to respond to the raw eggs bit, but i might mention that about 14 months back, there was a huge story in the newspapers about how orange juice was bad for you. Moral of the story... Dont drink orange juice, it'll give you heart disease, stomach ulcers, atheletes foot.. and the rest
