Well guys, after passing POC and AIB for the 2006 YO batch I received a letter from Gosport today.
It went something like this: '....we regret to inform you...blah blah...but have you considered Commando Helicopter Force who work with the RM or any other comissioned branch etc.'
Balls!
I'll have to try after I go to uni then. I will still pop on to this website every so often to share thoughts and thanks for all the help, especially the diaries. If anybody else wishes to let all of us know how they've done regarding the YO batch for '06 then please do!
Steve

Sorry to hear that sd88, but you did very well to get that far and pass both POC and AIB so hold your head up high for that, remember you have only lost out ,so to speak, to some very high calibre individuals (except deadhead of course, what happened there?
)
I,m sure you will gain some worthwhile experience from university and despite what some people say about uni, i really think it's worthwhile if your thinking of going for officer and of course forces aside you will have more options with a degree. It may not be for some, but for myself for example, i feel i,d be far more equipped i think as a person having been to uni than i would have been before.(even though i,m not going for officer).
Anyway mate best of luck, have you thought of joining the RMR if you go to uni, i strongly suggest making sure you do it in your first year if you decide to as it will get tough fitting it all in after that.

Don't give up just yet
My older brother went on the Army board when he was 19 and was told he was not quite there yet but to come back in a couple of years.. he didn't and has always regretted not doing so.
Look at the Uni thing as an opportunity there are lots of things to get involved with around sports and possibly OTC or RMR/TA.
Hard luck mate if it makes you feel any better I am in a very similar boat. Letter came through we regret....you have however been placed on the Reserve list for entry by the end of September.
I am not sure if I should hold out for this as my contract is up on my house at the start of September and it is a difficult situation.
Any advice, anyone been on the Reserve list and made it in? Will I be treated differently if I do make it?
Congrats to all the lads that made it through, be proud you are a select team! All the best for the future.
Wimbo.

Tough break sd88. Can't really advise on the pilot business. However, as far as university is concerned, go. It's not only good for the brain (if you pay a reasonable amount of attention), it's also the only way to leave home without your mum crying (too much), and does 'round out' your personality a lot. Then reapply for Royal, and blaze your way through both POC and AIB, with your new improved mind and previous (passing) experience. You'll be a shoo in for a later YO batch.
Hard luck mate, I got the same letter.
Wimbo1080- Were you going for Royal Officer? If you were then I'd say that you must have just missed out on a place by a few points. I know my score was quite a bit below what was needed to make the batch this year, despite passing. Not wanting to build your hopes up, I know quite a few dropped out or were dropped through injury at the beggining of last years course, so you might yet be in luck.
