How do you switch off?
After exercise, especially in the evening, I find it hard to wind down. It takes me a long time to relax and get to sleep. Can anybody give me any tips?
Many thanks.

Welcome to the board. At my age (I am 43) it's easy to wind down as I am tired out anyway LOL It's not a good idea to drink loads of beer etc what is the point after working it off, so listen to some relaxing music, do some reading or maybe try some horlicks. You might also like to try some meditation techniques - there are books or tapes you can get, which can help
Use a bit of NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Set yourself what is known as an 'anchor' - that is when your in bed those nights you've not trained, your warm comfy and happy, take in every aspect of the moment, the softness of the bed, the weight on your eyelids etc.. now do something like softly tapping the middle finger first knuckle of your left hand and think a specific thought of a comforting memory while you do this.
depending on how into this you get it may take a few weeks (more so given you need to do it ONLY when actually tired and know you wont take long to sleep) but you will find your body will come to associate the feeling of sleepyness with that comforting soft tapping of the knuckle and the warm snuggly thoughts. This will induce those feelings in you at that time.
I've just recently started studying all this NLP stuff, the positive mental side of things and the influence is AMAZING.

That's a bit worrying because I'm 20 and can easily go to sleep after exercise!mfat_man wrote:At my age (I am 43) it's easy to wind down as I am tired out anyway LOL

Its as easy as I've just described. You just need an open mind. Heres how easy it is to demonstrate the power of the mind:CryBaby1000 wrote:Thanks for your tips. NLP sounds a bit far out, but I think I will give it a try.
Take your index finger and thumb and touch them to form a loop. Do the same with the other hand but having interlocked the fingers to form a chain link.
Now: Think of someone you love and try to pull the links apart while you resist with the fingers.
When you've done that, think of something you hate and try again.
See..?

Got to agree, I listen to hypnosis CD's (yes some do work!:p), and have gotten used to basic breathing exercises. Usually just breathing in deeply through the nose, holding it, and slowly breathing out, by the time i've done that 4 or 5 times i've stopped listening to the CD and i'm drifiting off.
