Weight to height ratio.

Post by sam_25 »

Hi, it’s my first time posting here on mfat and I just wanted to know what is the height to weight ratio because I have been on a few RM websites sites and they have said that their is, I weigh around 65kg and I am 6ft1. I much appreciate if anybody has any information if this would be ok and if it’s not, what kind of weight should I be. Thanks.

As long as you've got the muscle & fitness to do what you need, nobody will give a toss mate  Some blokes will be built like brick shithouses, strong as a horse but suffer badly when running; some will be whippets who can run fast and long, but aren't going to be first choice to haul the anti-tank kit around.

BMI alone means absolutely nothing unless you are extremely obese or extremely underweight. What matters is your strength in proportion to your body, and your ability to heave bodyweight around.

Height to Weight Ratio

Post by TheWedge »

I am about 6ft 2 and I weigh 93kg and I don't have much fat on me. It all depends on your build. With a lighter build you may beat me on pullups and press ups but when it comes to a load carry over distance I may have the edge ;-)

Power to Weight is a more important ratio in my books.

Well thanks, another question of mine was: do you think that I have bitten more of than I can chew trying to join the RM at 16. I’ve my exams for these 3 weeks coming up then when I leave school I’m going to do some solid training for 2 to 3 months to get me up to the standards for the prmc.

What kind of training would you recommend for me to get fitter and get a bit more muscle on me?
We leave school over here at 16. :)

Concentrate on your press ups, pull-ups (to the "bend stretch, bend, stretch" routine) and sit-ups. It's not about muscle size in the slightest and being lighter with a larger frame is probably a big advantage for you. Muscular endurance work and fast-paced, medium distances should do the trick.
Get on the rowing machine too.

Don't run in boots, it's a waste of time and could cause you stress injuries if your feet and ankles are not used to them. Leave running in boots until you start RT and they make you!.

I spent the summer working as a labourer in 2003 and could run in boots as I wore them every day for the best part of 6 months, but I don't recommend it just for getting fit. Trainers are great, try to get proper running shoes, not cheap rubbish. I am going to invest in a decent pair of running trainers soon.

You should probably try and put on a bit of weight before your medical. I passed mine weighing a stone more than you at the same height and I look bloody skinny, so I reckon you'd be right at the limit at the moment.. :)

Get gorging I say!

Sam25 - A Royal Marines officer told me 65kg is the minimum weight requirement for the Corps so I'd get on the Mars Bars if I were you mate.

Hankins - One 'stone' is an English name for 14 pounds (in weight, not currency)

1 Stone = 14 Pounds, 2.2 Pounds is equivalent to 1 kg

81 kg = 178 pounds (81*2.2 = 178, 178/14 = 12.7(ignore .7) ,12*14 = 168, 178 - 168 = 10 pounds) = 12 Stone, 10 Pounds.

In the US you'd say you weigh 178 pounds, we would say "12 stone, 10 pounds"

Isn't it funny how America is totally into the imperial system, yards, feet ounces and all that but Canada is metric. It's about time Britain went totally metric, but living in Germany I s'pose I'm a bit biased...

Well i would say your pretty skinny. But weight will come once you start training properly, maybe lay of the cardio for a few weeks and concentrate on gym work and bodyweight circuits and put a bit more muscle on. Im 69kg and only 5"7
