Time to drag this up again.

Now i've finalised my situation regarding university i've been looking into UOTC/ URNU and the reserve forces available in the local area. Surprise surprise there are none as it's just an expanded market town. So started to fan out a bit and the only other infantry reserve unit are RAuxAF Gunners at RAF Benson. My question is whether other users think this would be useful for a person working towards a career in the Royal Marines?

My thoughts at the moment are that it would be positive by gaining military experience and improving fitness. The negative obviously is that it is different and i would have to unlearn many things should i make it through to CTCRM.

What do you think?

HAHA soone I had Brighton university (that is where your planning on going right?) as one of my choices and I didnt choose it because it had nothing (RMR/UOTC) around! However I am two weeks late to hand in my finance package which will allow me to actually have money whilst studying. So I may not be even going to Uni. anymore because of that reason, and am now considering PRMC! Heads a little mixed up at the mo..

Have you handed it in yet? :o

I suppose RAuxAF Gunners are a little bit like RMR, both green and do general GDT although RMR to a higher level... I dont see how it will hinder you, but only show you have got off your arse to get make a move into the forces rather than leaving 'there wasnt any military organisations within the area' as your excuse.

Letsrole if you hand your student loan paperwork in late you still get the money. It just may arrive a bit late. Take it from someone who knows

taking a year out may not be such a bad thing, I'm doing a art based course which wants more mature students so I'm taking two years out and working where I can get experiance for my course, Also I wont have to worry about the time consumed in the holding troop/post selection phase

If you hand your forms in a week or two late then you typically get your money for the start of term, a week or two after at worst.

However, if you dont want to go to uni...

I'm going to be at Buckinghamshire now, it's even worse than Brighton as far as reserve forces goes.

My finance stuff is not soted at all but mine is a programme where a bursary is given and there are no tuition fees. So i suppose I couldn't apply until an offer was made and i firmly accepted. Will sort it on monday though. If not i suppose i'll have to go begging to my family to bail me out, however their intrest rates are horrendous.

Buckinghamshire made me a better offer plus a great financial bonus.

I'll be studying nursing. See the missing the obvious thread in general discussion for a more indepth explaination.
