and now you can add Chris5818 to that list!!

What a bad doo!!, just got back from the physio this morning guys and gals and appear to have the dreadding MFAT curse, i thought it was all a myth to be honest, having read certain posts about it, but have now come to realise it exists and is a very serious injury. I have just passed my written test and know that it will still be a while before i can visit Lympstone again, so i'm guessing weeks of rest will have to be the cure and hopefully will be able to get my fitness back up before the big date.

The positive side for me is that of alee9 seems to have overcome, and has his prmc th 27th. So if you reading this alee9 please feel free to tell me how you went about it and how you went about keeping positive.

And everyone else on satans list who i havn't mentioned, us guys have got to stick together so get in touch.

Cheers

Chris

Mate i wouldnt worry about an MFAT curse thats just silly talk and a poor excuse.

I was talking to the petty officer taking my prmc briefing this week and he was telling me about the HUGE amount of people that get injured or ill prior to going on prmc. He said this was mainly due to people over training themselves trying to get ready for the course and not using good warm up and cool down techniques, also over training + tiredness can lower the immune system and make you more susceptible to illnesses. He said right before most prmc's a few drop out due to injury and illness because people have been pushing themselves to hard in the few weeks prior.

His advice.. just chill out and go steady... there looking for potential not supermen! :D

Also considering the amount of people from these boards that pass prmc and the few that go on to complete recruit training. Its just a small majority who get injured

So give your injury time and take it steady.

Hi Chris,

I had shin splints for a while but seem to have beaten them now and am waiting for a PRMC date (hopefully end of April.) I think the reason I was getting them was down to the training I was doing. I was doing 3 long runs a week on the road and after a while it was really having an effect on my shins and lower legs.

I took a couple weeks rest and now focus on circuit training with one long run a week. I also bought some Sorbothane insoles from ebay for £15 which have also helped a great deal. I also now try to run mainly on grass and again this seems to have really helped.

Take a couple weeks rest and then do curcuits as your main form of exercise. I have some excellent circuit routines. Let me know if you want me to post them.

I do not believe in the MFAT curse, I think that people are training too much too quickly or doing the wrong types of training.

Get well soon.
Cheers

I, i know mate, least you still got a date though and it's not never, i know it's hard to take in when people say well least you can get yourself fitter till then etc etc (easy for you to say), it will be hard mate i know exactly where your coming from, when i injured my back i basically thought fu*k it, whats the point!! year out, may as well drink myself stupid doing a year of eating sh*t and basiclly getting myself down.

I've regretted that ever since and once you hit that low believe me you don't feel like doing anything with yourself and begin to let yourself go, that was where i was going until that is of course my darling girlfriend dumped me, I woke one morning up and thought your a fuc**ing idiot get a grip get your life sorted and do summit you have always wanted to do.

Now i'm free and single i don't get the constant nagging of "can we get a take away tonight chris?" , "we got one last night the night before that and the night before that!", "oh fu*k it yeah well get one", women (most women) (in my case anyway) just don't have a clue.
I'm now the best i've ever been mentally and physically, and just wish i'd have kept at my dream, girlfriend or no girlfriend and not let myself go.

Yeah it is 1 Year 8 months time, but you get depressed and that time will increase by 2 years then 3 years and you'll regret it forever.

So just stay strong mate, enjoy life and just think ahead of the time you'll be entering lymstone fit, healthy and flying through training.

You ever want to talk catch us on MSN mate

anyway take it is mate and stay strong

Good post 8)

The curse of MFAT LOL! I think I have seen it all now... listen as the man says if you don't train or eat/drink (lots and lots of water) warm down and stretch that might be a likely cause of failure before or after the cadres you are doing.

As far as MFAT is concerned most military recuiters very much see this places as a blessing, I can tell you even though I am a lowly stab I've been in contact with virtually ever unit in the past and they ALL say the same thing... e.g. some awareness of fitness is better than none.

Just because they don't all post here does not mean they are not viewing the site and giving their full support.

Curses are for wimps

Train hard guys

Cheers mfat_man nice to be appreciated.

Thing is if you warm-up + down correctly and down try to do to much too soon you should be able to avoid getting injured and make good progress. More people should take note of this and not try to push beyond their limits every training session.

Nobody actually really believed in the MFAT curse!

It was just a joke people made up as at one stage so many lads from the forum were coming down with injuries and it seemed nearly every nod who was a member of the forum was also a member of Hunter.

Nobody (that I know of) ever used it as an excuse.

James good man  Got to remember the forums are just a means to the ends and that by posting people are letting us know what is happening e.g. of they bombed out before they would not let other people know.

As for the viewers of the site - "Hits total: 379251, Last 24 hours: 845"
Believe me they are out there!

This is true. davo141 probably being one of the most unlucky users. I think he's spent almost a year in the dreaded Normandy block.

There's also another "stigma", so to speak, and that's about Welsh lads not getting through training without a stint in Hunter or being backtrooped. Almost sure that's crap though.

However, I'm Welsh and on civvy street because my 'mechanical lower back pain' isn't something that'll heal in time or show enough of an improvement over the course of a few months to not merit a medical discharge. I get proper threaders about this, and the absolute dog shit civvy street is, so I'll shut up. Anyway, my math tells me:

RctTrg / (Mfat * Wales(SheepShagged)) = ProneToProblems

I was down in lympstone two weeks ago and all the nods were lined up outside the blocks, it took me all my time NOT to shout, 'Hands up if your on MFAT' mind you it would have been rather amusing. :D

If anyone saw a black jeep and a bike trailer with a Harley davidson on it, that was me.
