Service Record
Sorry to break the mould of what is normally asked on these forums, but I have a question regarding service records to which if anyone knew the answer I would be very thankful. Basically whilst browsing I noticed its actually possible to obtain a copy of your record for a small fee. As Im ex TA and then RAF Regt (although not long) I thought it would be interesting to know what was on mine. At a guess I would reckon it would be a glorified report on character and ability, but like i say I'm guessing. Does anyone know exactly what are on these records and do they contain information on all of your history, as in my case with the Army TA and RAF Regt or is it a case of a separate report for each service? I just thought it would be interesting to know what was in them and who creates them? Cheers for any help!

I think mine would read "Nice bloke should have tried harder and remembering to take his PW with him when being bugged-out would be a good start"TJD wrote:You can request a copy of your service records via a Freedom of Information request. There is a website that you can find via google which will point you in the right direction.
Unsure what info is retained on TA service - but would guess at not a lot. For the RAF it depends on how long ago you left. An FOI request will give you all the information that is currently on record. You wil probably have to do 2 seperate requests though.
thankyou for your replies. Do you know what is actually written on them? Sounds silly but are they actually like school reports? Do they comment on an individuals ability to learn or character or perhaps how they work in a team. What about fitness etc is that mentioned? Is a persons medical history contained within these records or is that separate too? just curious to know as im rejoining 4Para and they no doubt will ask for them to be transfered from the RAF Regt unless im mistaken (not that thats a problem).
cheers!
