It's nice to see such a high profile case reiterating what a naval force is capable of. Particularly following the recent statements from the Admiralty regarding the role of a modern navy.

Well done fellas!!

OK, this will seem like a very silly question, but it's only just hit me now:

If they arrested them in international waters, under who's jurisdiction(sp?) are they acting? I mean, how do laws apply if it's not any nations territory?

At least, I think thats what I'm trying to ask...?

Acting under the UN Convention against the Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, 1988, member states who have agreed to the convention are empowered to undertake such acts. Jurisdiction is defined in the link below, but usually the traffickers are prosecuted either under their country/port of origin, or the country to which the vessel is registered. Really dull document I'm afraid:

Have a good read!! :D :D

Right, ta for that! Now I have something to read in college tomorrow! Having said that, until I've finished it, I'll just take your word for it mate. I was just curious thats all, I'm not planning to pack a few kilos of crack onto my board and try getting it into the country, but was worried about getting stopped, honest :-? .
