Just found out some news from my mates I passed PRMC with...

Post by Daveb »

I just spoke to one of my mates who I passed selection with, and I just found out that all the lads who passed selection with me that are in their 32 weeks training....there are only 2 left!!

It wasnt that they failed tests, they either got medically discharged or quit! Of the 2 who are left, one's in week 29 and is desperate to leave.....just carrying on by will power! The other's in week 15 (he started later)

We had 18 of us pass PRMC. Some of these guys were super fit.

Just a heads up for people that have passed PRMC and think that's it over with :)

That kind of puts things in perspective there mate, Ive heard that the PRMC level of fitness is the stage of fitness you should be at week 3. Now that just shows how 'unfit' we all are.

Wise words Daveb. It doesn't get any easier (much harder in fact) you just get used to it which itself is a great feeling.

What you don't come across on the PRMC is the complete degradation that comes with savage phys, not much food or drink and very little sleep when you pissed wet through and freezing your tits off. On top of that you're learning all the time and have to stay switched on. Not easy but then if it was then everyone would be a bootneck

Remeber this though....(from some book or other about the Corps)

"In our compulsive consumer orientated society, which is fast losing its direction, becoming fat and pot bellied, where discipline is scorned and the scramble for wealth is foremost in the minds of our youth, the green beret of the Royal Marines Commando stands alone as being a rare pearl of great price.

It is a symbol of excellence, dedication and professionalism, an accolade for those who push themselves beyond the limit of normal human endurance.

In an age when standards are crumbling, the Green Beret is as British as the Union Jack, for it represents true grit and dogged individual determination.

The Green Beret is not for sale, thousands have sought to attain it, but along the way many have wilted and failed. It is a classless symbol of fortitude and achievement."

Nice post Sully, Dave B I know the drop out rate is high but surely that's a little exceptional, two out of 18!

What points do people fail on in the actual 32 week course? I hear about assesements on marksmanship first aid, stalking etc are these the parts where people actually get compulsorily kicked out?

Your right Dave, upstairs is where it counts. You allways get a few blokes along the way such as myself who get broken and consequently medically discharged but thats the name of the game.
As Sully said, when your dangling piss wet through cold and yomping at 2 in the morning thats where it matters. Nobody gives a s*it if you can run 3 miles in 2minutes then trust me :D

Some guys do get binned for failing compulsory tests such as Baptist Run but not many guys to be honest, if your half switched on you should be fine.

The key to passing out is to be determined and stubborn if need be. And unfortunately the she devil that is lady luck also plays it part.

Nobody enjoys training Dave, they sack it because they're weak.

Hats off Ian for sticking it out in Hunter. I'm sure I would have wrapped if it happened to me mate - good luck.

Oie did! :D Sad bugger or what hey? As it is you never remember the bad times, only the good times.

There is a bloke from where I live whos been in 14 months now. He broke his hip in I think week 15 and was stuck in Hunter Troop of a fair few months. Got back into a Troop just before Summer leave. Returned to CTCRM and knackered his hip again. If it's found to be broke again I am afraid he's out.

He loves the life and I know for a fact will be gutted if he can't continue. As it happens it was me who talked him into joining and I feel so sorry for him. If it's just a minor Hic Cup I'm 100% sure that he will make a fine Bootneck.

Cheers Sully, hunter definetly is a balls ache at times, but then again every aspect of training is.

Artist just to let you know Mike's hip is all okay, he had the MRI and the fracture was just starting to go again. So he's managed to stop it just in time, a few more weeks in hunter and it will be healed and he can crack on. He nearly dragged me up to Nantwich this week for a pissup, but i was beef and saved the cash ready for civvi street.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do all these injurys happen in training that people are ending up with broken legs etc. Where do most of these bad injurys happen in the course?

Due to start on November 7th mate. 11 months after passing PRMC! My hip injury is all but cleared up now, the other side aches in the same area though which is weird. My physio is pretty sure that it is dude to 10 months over compensation.
