Para training; beastings aside
Para training; beastings aside
Hello All.
I haven't been able to find this information else where on the web so I hope one of you guys can help. Aside from the phys, beastings and P-Coy tests, what other training goes on in Para selection?
A mate in 42 Cdo has told me about the RM recruits course, with patroling, FIBUA, cliff assaults etc and I was wondering how the Para course is different. I realise Paras and RM are trained for different things but additional information would be helpful to me.

-Learning to use weapon systems, SA80 A2, LSW, GPMG, LMG, HE grenades, and a couple of lessons on the 51mm Mortar.
-Drill. All aspects of marching and military foot and arms drill.
-Fieldcraft. How to operate in the field. Everything from patrolling skills, hand signals, SOP's and what to do when you come under fire, to learning how to put up a basha, cook rations and live in a platoon harbour area. Advanced training, you learn about OP's, Ambushes, section and platoon attacks with live ammunition and live grenades.
-Personal Administration. How to iron you kit, make your bed, etc etc.
-OBUA. also known as FISH (fighting in someones house).
-NBC.
-Range work. Firing all the weapon systems on live firing ranges. Progressing to field firing in the later parts of training.
-Map reading.
-BCD. Battlefield Casualty Drills (military style First Aid).
...and thats just a handful of things.

Funny you should say that. I was out having a drink with afew mates at a pub in Catterick called stacks. or something like that, someone tell me the real name please.and filling in hats down the shot
Anyway a load of Paras, recruits I think came in shouting there mouths off. Giving it the big en to a bunch of Highlanders who were based in Catterick at that time.
Lets just say the Paras faces were the same colour as there berets.
No dig at the Paras just pointing out being a Para does'nt mean your good with your fists.
Hardest Regiment I've ever come across in my 14 years, The Black Watch. They rule Warminster with a iron fist

i reckon this is a made up story to look bad, how often do paras go on the lash in basic in catterick? when i was there i went once, i didnt want to go out i wanted to keep my fitness up, also they wouldnt have been gobbin off they will have known if they'd been caught fighting or gobbin off they'd been in shit.
just dosnt sound true
every regiment has hard blokes...they also have soft blokes
para beleive me im not making it up, why would I.
I havent a grudge with the paras.
And Jobag as just said that Para recruits do go out, and to Darlington and even Newcastle which are still quite a few miles from Catterick. Which goes against what you said about them not going out.
Once again I'm not starting a slagging match with anyone, but I did see what I saw and so what. Its not a dig at the Parachute Regiment and I think most would see it at that.
I often go away with 16AA myself I dont have an issue, just except it your lads took a beating this once, nowt to be ashamed off.

I felt the 10 miler was a piece of p*ss. I think the hardest test I done was the steeplechase followed by the assualt course but then I went at it like a bat out of hell.
we went into richmond when we stayed at helles bks in catterick , but then we were only part time skygods.

'Over there you googley eyed tw*t!'
para reg joes would not have been gobbin off in a pub in catterick firstly there banned from them all. secondly they would have not been gobbin off because it is drilled into you you are not para reg until that day you pass out with that maroon machine on your head. even then unless your a necky c@#t they still wouldnt have been gobbin off. and isnt it funny how u always here stories from hats on how they beat up para reg but we never seem to gob off about beatin up hats. even worse than being a craphat is a jelous craphat
