Has anyone tried out the Russian Systema martial art?
How effective is it?

I've been doing Systema for the past 6months or so. It is something you really have to try to understand. It's not everyones cup of tea and the training methods are a lot different to other martial arts I have done, but its definitely worth having a go. Since you are in London, Dave Kirrilov's club is a good one. Here is the link:

Systema
Systema is the Russian martial art system that is taught to the Russian Spetznaz.
I have seen it demonstrated at a display and watched a few video's by Vladimir Vasiliev. Not cheap though I see. What do you think, have you tried any other martial arts?

Hi mate,
I have done quite a few other martial arts, mainly muay thai and escrima. In my opinion, Systema is definitely the best one for me. It is based on basic principles and not techniques, and these principles can be applied to all situations, ranges etc. Like I mentioned on my earlier post though, its not everyones cup of tea, particularly as it lacks any sporting aspect. In my short time training in the system I feel I have learnt more than I did in years of other martial arts training, and its all instantly applicable stuff. If you try it, you will be amazed how fast you learn.
Here are a few sites you might find interesting. There are lots of articles, video clips etc.

If you get a chance to train with a certified instructor, its well worth it.
