Passed PRMC for the RMR

Post by Rugby lad »

Hi guys.

I've just got back from RMR Merseyside having taken part in (and passing) the RMR selection.

I'm proper knackered and I think i'll be doing alot of sleeping tonight!

The first fitness test was the U.S.M.C fitness test which was on the saturday night. Of course there was an infamous Royal warm-up before hand, which involved a lot of sprinting, jumping, press up's, etc. which left us hanging out, we then sprinted up to the gym where we did sit-ups, press-ups, burpees (which i wasn't aware that we were required to do them), pull ups and finally a 5x60m sprint. My scores are as follows.

Sit-ups = 81/85 (most i've ever done)

Press-ups = 51/60

Burpees = 31/41

Pull-ups = 13/18 (most i've ever done)

5x60m = 48 seconds

The second fitness test was the BFT (1.5miles as a troop then 1.5miles best effort). I did very poorly and got a rubbish time of 11.06mins, which i put down to a combination of not training enough, feeling the effects of the previous night and also not being fully awake at 6am when we started the run! (most likely to be the first of the 3 reasons however)

After a very light breakfast we did the bleep test at about 9am, this time i managed a slightly more respectable 11.6.

I really enjoyed the weekend and met some great lads from all the RMR Merseyside detachments (Manchester, Liverpool and my own, Birmingham).

Feel free to ask any questions or post any comments and i'll try to respond to them.

I'm raring to get on with it all, start the induction weekend in a fortnight and crack on with phase 1 A.

The good thing about the RMR is the very close ties it has with the Regular Corp. I'm trying to get some info for two lads who are keen to give it a go. Both are in Full Time education as in doing degrees and first tried the TA but were none to impressed with our local TA unit so they asked me to get some info. Which I am in the process of doing.

Whenever RMR lads were attached to whatever unit I was with they blended in right away with the Regulars. Their mindset was on a par with us full time Eijuts right from the start. It does help that a large proportion of the RMR were in fact ex Regulars so the attitudes and such like were easy to assimulate into guys who joined from the street.
