New Fitness standards??

Post by rockapemk1 »

Visited my local ATC squadron last night who where doing the RAF fitness tests (push ups ,sit ups, bleep test). Decided I would have ago but didnt get a chance to ask the staff what the result I got meant. I understand that its now divided into Very Poor, Poor,Pass,Good,Very Good, Excellent ( I think)

Anyone able to tell me what my results relate to on the above grading?
Bleep test 15.1
Sit ups 60
Push ups 35

Utterly pathetic!!

If you wish to become a member of the Uber Mensch and be treated as the awesome incarnation of all that is mighty that being a bearer of the Mudguard of Death will bestow on you then I suggest you buck up.

I am 40 in Feb and cannot remember the last time the bleep test was played at anything under triple speed for me. Sit ups should be completed whilst hanging by your toes from a suitable cliff top, a bare minimum of 2 mins effort will be able to produce approximately 500. PRESS UPS not push ups (americanism) are usually completed with your personal bergan on your back. The bergan is to contain all the kit you would require to sustain you for 8 years of offensive Ops. You should therefore be aiming to achieve a minimum of 150 reps in the 2 mins allowed.

I sneer at your derisory efforts so far. Much more work is required if you want to be "One of the RAF's most powerful fighters".

Regards

Alright mate, I dont really have a clue but at least my answer will have more bearing than SS!!

Level 15 on the bleep (providing you didnt cheat ;) ) would be excellent, as they only ask 10.6 for Pilots and 13 for PTOs as a minimum. Sit ups i would guess would be good/very good and pressups would be about a pass. This is me just guestimating though!

To pass the RAF fitness test the Basic standards are Level 9.10 on the Bleep test (17-24 yrs), 13 press ups, 35 sit ups in 2 mins.

The older you are the less you need. These are for ground support trades, Officers and Regiment may be different.

SS when you get to 40, they test you still have a firm enough grip on life and your bladder control function.

Judging by these pitiful requirements it is no wonder the older members of Trade Group 8 are the fitter!

It's the same for everyone; it's only based on age, not branch or rank. So it's 9.10 for 17-24 year old males, and 8.10 for 25-30 (or whatever the next stage up is). It's a minute for the pressups and situps.

At IOT, you'll be expected to get 10.2 initially, and at least 10.6 before FLC if you're a 17-24 year old male. When you sit the standard AFT at the end, it reverts to 9.10.

The new one is a "max effort" test, so you no longer need to stop at your required level. The levels are something like Very Poor, Fail, Pass, Creditable, Good, Excellent. It doesn't make a blind bit of difference what you get as long as you pass.
