A wild stab in the dark here but I think you may be referring to the element of the course (used to be IOT but is/has changed to something else) which covers Air Power (the key to which is flexibility!!).
From what some friends who have graduated from Sleaford Tech have told me it rates anywhere between Very Interesting to Mind Numbingly Dull. I could be totally wrong though. I would presume TJD will have a much better handle on it than I.

PS Per Ardua for VJ Day

The bit of IOT which covers air power is Operational Studies, and that's still the same as it ever was. The BAWC is a separate course, run by the Air Warfare Centre at Waddington. They run a series of professional courses starting with the BAWC and leading up to advanced command and staff level courses, and someone's decided it'd be good if all new RAF officers undertook the basic course.
Totally agree with you. I'd like to get my hands on as much training as possible if it makes me better equipped to be an Officer.TJD wrote:The someone who decided on it was the Chief and bloody good idea it was too. From what I can recall the BAWC and HAWC are the stepping stones in the Officer's career progression that will hopefully give them a smooth transition into AST. I think you complete the BAWC almost straight after you finish IOT (from 2006 I believe) and the HAWC is completed after ICSC (ie at Sqn Ldr rank). Such training will make us more competitive at AST and also in Sqn Ldr/Jnr Wg Cdr Joint staff appointments prior to AST.

Estimates
It is the planning process used to quantify the force structure/assets needed to conduct an operation. Previously it was introduced on JOCC at Shrivenham, but the RAF were lagging behind the RN and Army who taught it at intial training for officers.
It is NOT interesting! LOL
