Rick Steins, now that’s a sore point, I only asked I’m if his Fish was Fresh and he tried to get be barred from every establishment in Padstow. Never worked, all the landlords loved that Big Bassssssard from Brisssssol um do. No need for £5 Artist, Ill do it for the pleasure Mucker and at the same time I'll be doing all the locals a favour. You know how much he’s LOVED by Um ALL. NOT.

Sorry JR, LOVETS was the post. I joined in March 65 as a JE and we were issued with Lovets Serge and Lavets Wooster besides 2 sets of Blues. yet there where still many Royals, Hofficers, SNCO's, NCO's and Marines that were wearing B.D. and I must admit they looked the DOGS B*****KS, "Commondo Flashes and Dagger).
I never got to wear a B.D. but I would have liked to, as for them being a little rough, nothing could be worse than the DREADED LOVET SURGE, now that was ROUGH, One Hours Extra drill and you would have to go to Sick Bay for treatment on they "Carpet Burns". Dem Rough Lovats................YUK! Am frankly amazed that they didnt make us wear hairy shirts instead of GP shirts under the farking things.
Talk about the Owd Monks in the middle ages wearing itchy vests n stuff as a penance for thinking naughty thoughts. Royal in a Set of Rough Lovats could have made them look like Chiorboys!!!
Once it started to persist down at CTC and our nice DI Yorkie Malone got a sad on with us for wimping about getting wet. So he made us stay out in the rain doing the Owd drill. Them Farking Rough Lovats weighed in at Half a Ton each after that! And by heck JWT's bang on ref carpet burns. Red Raw all over so we were.
Being an all round good egg and brick I sold mine to these Army re-enactor Eijuts a few years ago. Creamed their Nicks when I showed them to them.
I always liked the owd States trip where you could flog a "Coveted Green Beret" to PFC Elmer P Chickenshit, USMC for rucks! We would go to the local Boy Scout shop in Guz and load up with as many as we could afford (30 pence each, a pint was then 10 or 11 pence a go). One Bootneck Capbadge in and you had $25/30 in ready money. Nay Problems!
"Has this Green Beret ever seen any action?" Elmer would ask.
"Seen any Action!! this is the Beret worn by (Insert rugsie sounding name) who won 5 VC's in one week. Yes it's seen action. I don't really want to sell it but I need the money as my Mother needs an Operation to remove her (insert gobbledey gook med sounding word) and thats why (Insert rugsie sounding name) gave me it to sell. (Inset rugsie sounding name) said it was the least he could do after I saved his life when we were in (Insert name of Country/County i.e. Lanarkshire during this 28 hour firefight) back in (insert a year)"
Wipe away the tears and look at Elmer with that "LOOK" only Royal can produce when in need of Ackers for more Ale. Elmer will then take said "Coverted" Green Lid reverently in his sweaty hand and produce Beer Tokens!!! Mind you don't try to do this when under the fluence of to much Ale. One of me Wingers tried to sell a Lid to the same bloke he had flogged one to the previous night! Elmer was not a Happy Hector!!!

Said "Sad Sack" paid $50 Bucks, plus USMC Zippo, Fake me Artist $50 USA Dollars, never had so much bread in all me life, I thought of going AWOL for a Month On leaving China Fleet and with most of mortar Troop in tow, (Well Fluffster did have the money and like all good Royals, what’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine, excluding women and beer.) we made are way to the Cross Roads From HEAVEN. Aussie Shore Patrol stopped us, They were of some Flat Top we sold Um, Melbourne I think Where you Bin, Where you Goin, ROYAL WHERES YOUR BERET, Aussie Basssssards what’s it to do with they In goes the head, in goes Mortar Troop, Down goes Shore Patrol. Next day, 2 weeks stoppage of Pay and 2 weeks 9's. Got caught returning to Ship with NO FAKIN BERET, that Beret Cost Me, from that day on, "Buy this Beret, Fake OFF, it took me 10 months to earn it".
