nah, he may of worded it in a very pointed manner, but you wouldnt feel the need to go into a gym and knock on peoples ability in there would you?

why do it here?

everyones got their strengths and weaknesses - running isnt one of mine and im sure that there are alot on here preparing for service who are in the same boat.

Re-reading the posts I can see why he was he vexed. I think he thought I was refering to the actual PRMC run, which I don't underestimate in the slightest. I was on about running as an unknackered civvie in training and wasn't trying to belittle anyones efforts.

Re the bleep test, I was told once that when it was being developed at Loughbourgh University one of the best levels achieved was 15 by a good (though not international) 1500m runner. The person I spoke to was of the opinion that anyone who got passed level 16 had probably cheated or was confused. It certainly favours sportsmen who do a lot of short burst sprints, footballers, hockey players, squash players.

As for highest, my mate (2 years older than me) got to the end of the tape.

I did the bleep test today, over 20 metres, not sure if it was suppose to be a 15 metre one though as it was in school (are you sure all school ones are set for 15 metres?). Also it was a cassette, got an abysmal score of 11 (just!!!).

So is there a chance I was running 20 metres instead of 15 metres but still within the bleep time? :-? Ah ace well that’s made me a little happier as now I know it’s not so bad! Well maybe…

2 months ago I was able to get 12.8 and that was before any training, now Iv been training for a month and got 11. :o

PS my shins weren’t sore after it so I may still be on course for 21st Nov. POC

The dreaded bleep test....

Post by GGHT »

Ego buster of the finest degree lol.

Haven't done it in ages but I do know that you can put levels on it by practicing it. I got mine up from a laughable 9 to mid 11 in about 3 weeks just by getting the tempo right etc.

The same person I spoke to was of the opinion that it was highly unlikely anyone would ever be able to complete it as the amount of acceleration needed to complete the latter stages was such that you'd almost need a jet engine strapped on to beat the bleep.

:D

The gap between bleeps at level 21 is about 3.5 seconds which doesn't sound too bad, approx 5.7m a second or 12.77mph average speed, but when you take into account that your speed starts at 0mph you obviously need to accelerate to way beyond 12.77mph to get that average speed. If my maths wasn't so rusty I could probably work out what your maximum speed would be if you assumed an even acceleration across the 20m starting at 0mph.

A rough guess would be, taking an even acceleration, you would be travelling at 12.77mph at the half way point, ie 10m mark. With a constant acceleration, at the 20m mark your speed will have doubled to 25.54mph. That works out at approx 11.42m a second or a 100m time of 8.75seconds, if you could maintain that speed as your average. So, to complete the bleep test you really would need to be exceptionally quick/explosive.

.....or I may have got that wrong with the maths.

David Beckham and Lance Armstrong can get to level 23 apparently. Wonder where they hid the jet engines.. :o

Had to laugh at a quote attributed to Rio Ferdinand I saw on a BBC site before.

"David Beckham is so fit he can complete the bleep test and still look fresh."

I've heard people say all sorts of rubbish like Neil Back can get to level 18 etc. I think Lomu in his prime managed mid 10, as did that Tinhead fella off Brookside.

he cant have got to 23, the test only goes upto level 22. correct me if im wrong but im doing it as a trainnig method for my Sport Studies coursework. areas in britain have banned it as a kid pushed himself to the max to finish it and keeled over and died afterwards. as a result in schools, teachers have to stay silent and not encourage them to keep going past safe levels. w.w.w
