Thats a very exact date to be asthma free. I take it you tried to apply 1 year 4 months ago but got knocked back for this condition you are trying to kid yourself into thinking you dont have.

Look if you need to take that stuff twice a week you ARE an asthmatic. I had a inhaler just in case for about 12-14 months of my life, i used it ONCE, and that was 12 years ago. I think your deffination of growing out of asthma is slightly different to everyone elses, and like i said before mine was brought on by living in a pub.

Like stixs and harry have said. We have given you advice and you dont like it. I'm not adding any more to this as you are starting to wind me up about it now.

But one more thing. Since you are joining the RM and are aiming to get a maroon lid i take it you think the CTC is in Yorkshire?

Well, your starting to wind me up now too. If you had payed attention to what I have written, you would realize that I went to join the Marines almost 2 years ago- and was rejected.

Not once have I said that I will secifically be re-applying for the Marines when my time is up. People change, and so does asthma. I will be applying for the Parra's for your information- looks like you have got your parties mixed up.

I've come in late on this but I feel I should comment. I have asthma and always have had - in a mild form. The only way to get in is to say you don't have it and get supplies sent to you by your parents, that's how I got by.

Two things you need to know:

1. The training WILL bring your asthma on!
2. The training will help your asthma as your lungs develop.

I was as gutsy as anyone else in proving it could be done but my suggestion is: don't try Para Reg or Marines first. Give yourself a chance to assimilate by joining line infantry or one of the corps. You can always apply for a transfer three years down the line if you feel fit enough. If you don't then report to the MO and tell him you feel wheezy all the time and are experiencing shortness of breath. He'll prescribe Ventolin and you'll always be able to get it at locally then. Your ability to do your job will then be judged not by your condition but by what is evident in your performance as a soldier.

in 2003 I applied for the RAF, I read up and found out all the information I could before even stepping foot into the AFCO.

I told him about my asthma and he said I would need 4 years clear from any symptoms -

GUTTED is the term to use. The reason why I was so gutted was that my brother has asthma, and I as a child had asthma also. We were both on prescriptions but I hardly ever took mine unless I was suffering with flu or a severe cold and playing sports at the same time.

My mother kept getting prescriptions for me until I was 19 (once every summer) I never took them and they just went out of date, although of course remaining on my prescription records.

I declared this of course (sadly, too honest not to) and was rejected until july 2007

I was gutted and really couldnt figure out what I was going to do, would I feel the same in 2007 about joining up?? baring in mind i would be 23 and joining later in life.

Its better for me now, I better not waste this time I have until 2007, but if I do change my mind in joining up I would rather be prepared so I'm going to learn a trade such as electronics or plumbing and get on with life

I'd suggest you to do the same pal and not to worry too much about it (easier said than done)

I havent taken an inhaler in 6 years but whats done is done. Asthma isnt like a cold that goes away, you either grow out of it or it stays, mild or not

if its only mild then stay off the inhaler, if you really have trouble breathing then its something you'll have to get on with

It's entirely up to the individual how to play it however. If you are suffering badly as a result of asthma then fine - own up to it and don't put your colleagues at risk.

If you are able to get by with the occasional bit of wheeziness then soldier on and keep your gob shut. Think twice before risking your comrades lives however - they depend on you.
