does anyone know the average time you would be looking at for postings(to units not tours) to the various units e.g 42,45
as i was told partners can only accompany you on postings over a year...
so would be pretty tough on the partner if your moving non-stop

cool, Are they less likely to move a guy who has a family setteled around the area his unit is based in ?
For example a marine who was in 42 commando and had his family based around plymouth, Would they be less likely to move this guy to 45 commando or is it just a case of every couple of years you go whereever they tell you to, and family reasons dont come into it ?
Thanks in advance.

The simple fact is that you go where they tell you to go.
You can do what is called a "Swop Draft" that is find a bloke who wants to stay in one unit that you dont want to go to and basically Swop your units.
Dont confuse the Royal Marines with the Army. Who tend to stay in the same Battalion for their entire time in the Service.
The joy of being drafted is that you get a solid grounding in Corp Life. And it's an even bet that when you get drafted to your next unit a pound to a penny there will be blokes you knew from your previous drafts.
Also all promotion courses take place at CTCRM regardless of your SQ/TQ.
So you will have Clerks, Drivers, Signallers, PW's, ML's SBS everybody doing the same courses. And it works like a charm as the blokes who tend not to spend so much time at the pointed end learn not just from the Training Staff but also from their fellow course members.
It's what makes the Royal Marines one big "Family"
