Has anyone done their POC?? I have mine in 6 weeks(ish)
Regarding the fitness tests and requirements. sit-ups (80), press-ups (70) etc. The info i received it says "as many as you can do in 2 minutes". Now do they want 70 pressups blasted out in one go in the 2 mins or can u do 35, thenrest a few seconds then do some more?
Same with pull ups sit ups etc?
Charles

hi charlie,
regarding the fitness questions you've raised, the idea is to do your best for the 2 minutes. I'd try and avoid resting too much, bang out 50 or 60 then if you think you need to rest and try a few more - if you collapse in a heap it will not be looked favourably on, but if you keep trying until the end it'll impress. Same with the sit ups.
Rubber soled boots with a heel block - available from all good army surplus stores , basically your bog standard assault boot. They're required so you can lock onto bars, steps, poles etc and won't slip off (as you would with a flat soled boot)
Hope this info helps. Out of interest, when did you apply for your POC? Have you done a POI? Have you taken your RCB Brief?
I'm starting at RMAS in May 05, not long now
really want to get into the Paras although i'm fully aware of the limited numbers and difficult competition, will still give it my best.
Good Luck, Westy
PS - hi to everyone, sorry I haven't been around for a while. Also a big thank you to all those who encouraged me after my failure at AIB for the Marines. It'd be great to hear from you all, especially the lads who were on the Feb 9 - 11th 04 RM POC. I decided to take the Army route and passed the RCB, joining in the May 05 intake - should be good!!!

Hello Westy,
I passed the rcb briefing and had my POI in Nov if my memory serves me correctly. There was a POC the week after i did my POI but I was going to france so couldnt make it. I have my main board the week after my POC in March so i think ill be pretty exhausted at the end of it all.
I'm hoping to get into the May intake if possible but i know I may be a little too late and I might have to go for September.
Out of interest, did you read any of the current affairs topics you were asked to speak about in the weeks preceding RCB or POI? If so where did you read these?
Thanks for the advice re the rubber solded boots, I got a pair for a tenner and they are really comfprtable and a perfect fit.
Charles.

few questions to answer
ok ok, sorry i haven't been back on for a while. Right, questions to answer - here goes:
AIB fail - basically i fell to pieces when they started grilling me on the planning ex, didn't really take in the whole concept, and they realised this, then tore me to bits to see how i would respond - it wasn'tpretty!!
However, this stood me in good stead for the RCB as the Captain there really went after me but I was able to stand my ground and give good answers. I think the RCB probably had a peport of my AIB performance as they really seemed to be trying to snap me - nearly, but not quite.
POC - suitable for the Paras? I had an interview with the Officer in charge of Officer recruiting, Major De Tscharner Vischer i believe, he told me that he would be happy to sponsor me through RMAS but there would be no point changing my sponsor at that time (currently sponsored by the Devonshire and Dorsets) as you don't pick which regiment you want to join until the 2nd term.
Current Affairs - i tried to read the times every day, purely because they've reduced the size of it. The papers all seem much the same and as long as you have a knowledge of what;'s going on in the world you should be fine.
One tip I would definitely recommend is to read THE WEEK - gold dust!!!! All the news wrapped up in one publication, different viewpoints from different papers etc etc well worth the £2 a week it costs!
That's about it, feel free to ask any questions
Cheers, Westy
PSW - anyone who's at RMAS or has been there, please can you provide some info, many thanks!!

Nice work. Good to see you learning from it and using it to your advantage for the RCB.AIB fail - basically i fell to pieces when they started grilling me on the planning ex, didn't really take in the whole concept, and they realised this, then tore me to bits to see how i would respond - it wasn'tpretty!!
