So, what do you all think about Britain moving troops...
I agree cliodna, the British deaths/casualties are going to increase, its fact. I dont like it, im extremely pissed off with the government! Im sorry Flo but your husband joined the RM and knows what he is letting himself in for, when you married him you knew this too. My heart really goes out to you but you cant run away from the facts. I hope like ex-URNU said he comes home safe and sound but think about the family of the guys that will die because of this joke of a government
im ashamed to call myself british sometimes.

I really don't know what the big deal is, in moving troops around in Iraq.
The Brits. are in Iraq. If they are needed further north, then that's where they should go. It is a military decision - NOT a political one. If the Yanks need help up north then we should give it without the interference of politicians. They made the decision to go into Iraq. How the "war" is fought is down to the commanders on the ground.
The Black Watch will, very likely, do far better than the Yanks have done. We should be very proud of this.
I don't seem to remember in the second World War asking the Yanks only to fight in one particular area. We were only too glad of their help back then.!!
Shut up you whingers!!!

There is a job to be done, and if the Black Watch or whoever else are seen as the only ones capable of doing it, then so be it.
Take the Queens shilling and take all that goes with it.
Interesting to note that the ones doing the best impersonations of leaky taps(drip, drip) on this Forum, are the ones with no first hand experience of dealing with terrorists and/or being on a war footing

Elmer, who do you think was helping train your lot in FIBUA when they first fell over their own feet in Baghdad?
The little guys with the funny American accents were British.
We are humbled to be in the presence of such military might and knowledge.
Our understated view of your teams capabilities was 'If it doesn't work, hit it harder' now refined to 'pass a bigger hammer'.
Fortunately, as we had to a long time ago, your team has learnt the lessons. Unfortunately it has been by hard experience, loss of good men and equipment. It's not something we as Brits crow ovewr. We did but we were and are working alongside you.
Think about it.

Think about why your soldiers are never put in hostile cities. But im sure they trained the Americans! A source for your FIBUA comment would be great.Numbnuts wrote:Elmer, who do you think was helping train your lot in FIBUA when they first fell over their own feet in Baghdad?

Gunn i KNOW what i married into, and i KNOW he is doing a job, and i know what the jobs entails being ex forces myself, but the FACT is i stand side by side with my hubby and i always will. I agree with what cliodna says about the body bags instead of gaffa tape, but do we really have to have a discussion about body bags rammed down our throats especially at such a sensitive time. Im proud of my husband and what he amoungst others have acomplished in helping Iraq become a democracy, but i dont sit and watch tv 24/7 because ive seen what it can do to wives and it messes with your head. Sorry fella and i dont mean this disrespectfully, when or if you join the forces you will see how it lies on the other side. When your hubby is preping to go into theatre you go into automotive mode, you smile but really your stomach is churning. You put a brave face on for the children and lie to them if you have to. How can any mother say to there children, 'Yes daddy is coming home'. when they dont know themselves. So please dont tell me that i knew what i was letting myself in for and that i am running away from FACTS, because i know, i live with the FACTS on a day to day basis.Gunn wrote:Im sorry Flo but your husband joined the RM and knows what he is letting himself in for, when you married him you knew this too. The attached link is an interesting piece because it indicates what we know about fighting rag heads in Urban environments. It is not necessarily akin to NI.
Z, when it was suddenly realised that FIBUA was to be the order of the day, the US were lent some UK instructors who prepared US forces outbound to the theatre of ops. I can't find any links, but I think Flo's old man, 'Tommy Gunn' will confirm that.

Maybe our cities werent as hostile because we did not antagonise the local population as much as the americans did. Remember kiddy all your elite forces are modelled on ours. Rangers were based on Commandoes, Delta on the SAS, Navy Seals on SBS etc :theres a reason for that.
