7 grand for slopping out, Council tax bills for Soldiers

Post by alex4013 »

I read in a certain paper up here the other day that some prisoners (read, floodgates) have been offered £7k as a one off payment for the "Human rights violation" of having to slop out. They also get a 50% reduction in council tax bills for being "away from home".
Our forces abroad, even in hot operational theatres such as Iraq and Afghanistan, have to pay FULL RATE on their council tax. They are not classed as being "away from home."

Can someone help me understand this please!!?

New Labour. RIP off Britain.

Bl***y murderers, rapists, thieves, drug dealers, muggers, child killers and fraudsters only have to pay 50% aswell!! HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY THIS MR BLAIR ET AL.??

Don't get me started on Geoff Hoon either..

ps, this is NOT a political thread, in case anyone wants a political argument. I don't think any of them are any good.. Any party.

Now can any one tell me if the Police in Section Houses or Nurses in hospital accommodation pay the same.

They may have to pay council tax of some description, not sure if it's discounted or not.

I vaguely remember some nurses moaning about it when I worked in the local hospital, but then they moaned about every damn thing.

Before you all start gobbing off at me i have to point out that i am not some do gooding prisoner lover but..............when you get sent down your punishment is to have your liberty removed i.e. sent to jail, you still have rights which i know to well.
The question should be why don't the forces get treated the same as everyone else in the UK because if we all get treated the same then there is no gobbing off.
With regards to cons getting 7k payouts for slopping out, well im sad to say that we have many a solicitor who will take on any case from an inmate being assaulted to an inmate who has a lumpy matress and can't sleep, all this will be om legal aid so the con isnt bothered if he loses as it costs him nothing.
If your ever unlucky enough to go to jail the cons get a free newspaper called INSIDE TIMES and it is full of adverts from solicitors,
Im not an ex con by the way lol

If that's true it's disgusting :x I'm a student nurse living at home and get 25% discount, think it's the same for students living on campus (single accommodation). Oh, and I don't moan...unless it's warranted :-? :D

Prison is not full of bad and evil people mate, only 90% are bad, the others are like you and me but got involved in things that went wrong, ask yourself how many times you have been involved in a fight?, you didnt start it but you gave the other bloke a good slapping for his troubles, he reports you and you go to jail, Pte Clegg,(think thats his name), the para who was jailed for shooting during a VCP in NI, he went to jail did he not?, was he a bad and evil man? i could go on but with a hobby of "dogging" as you put in your profile,i dont think i will bother

Got me tin opener at the ready, just spinnin a can of worms through it, Ah! thats it open now.

I for one can't honestly sit here and say Lee Clegg legally killed that young lass Karen Reilly. Sure we'll all sit here and rally round him but at the end of the day, The shot that killed her and the shot that wounded the driver, Martin Peake who later died, were fired after the car had passed through the VCP. He should not have been in fear for his life and therfore should not have opened fire. I wasn't there of course but looking at the evidence, it seems to me to be an open shut case. Having said that though, I also can't sit here and say I would'nt have reacted in the exactly same manner as I have never been in that kind of situation. The fact that they then broke one of their multiple's legs in order to say that he was strook by the vehicle suggests that there was some doubt in their own minds of the legality of the engagement.
