Army Pay

Post by William »

*This was originaly posten on the finances board*

Short and sweet...are you satisfied with your pay?

Im from Canada so understanding the cost or living compared to living standard is a little tricky without ever living a day in the UK.

Ive been on the Armys website about pay and the like, but im sure its different when you break down the dolla...pounds and pence

What is it like living on a infantry privates pay? Is it sufficient,a struggle...?

Thanks
William.

It all depends on you just how quickly you spend your money and what on. Being in the Army is no difference than civiy street as far as pay goes, if you spend more than you earn then you are in the brown stuff. Your pay will vary depending on just what courses and qualification that you get while you are in the forces.

Some people joined the army from a higher wage than army pay, some from a lower wage. You view will depend on what work, if any, you did before joining, and the wage you were previously on. A rough guide to what is paid, is about £680 per month, increasing to upto £750 per month after 6 months. The amount always changes per month, due to the amount of days been worked, and days added and taken away for scoff, accomodation and such like.

End of the day, the amounts above is the money left in your back pocket after all deductions. So it is reasonable to keep you going when concidering you have paid for your scoff, accomodation, taxes, laundary, and so on.

I can tell you now thou. Most people, especially those in training ive come accross, spend there money very quickly, mainly on going out and drinking on a weekend. Alot of the guys end up been skint from the first weekend till the rest of the month. Alot of the recruits simply dont understand that once that money is gone, they can't get any more untill the last working day of the month.

In answer to your question, it is sufficient yes. However if you like a good stagnight out on a weekend, then maybe you might think differently. Usually the more money you have, the easier it is to spend.

You are paid every day of the week. I was reffering to the different amount of days in each month, some been 29, others been 30 some been 31days. This is what changed the final amount been paid out to you each month, even if it is just by a couple of pounds.
