Marines at Dogwood?

Post by Josh »

Watched the news footage of the Blackwatch raiding various enemy locations in Iraq a day or so ago. In one shot you can clearly see a Royal Marine. I didn't think they were up that far? Isn't the northen battlegroup composed of all Army Regiments?

Gods speed to all the blokes out there anyway, be they Brits, Yanks or whatever!

The news reports on the Blackwatch moving North ( you know, the ones tipping off the insurgents and providing them with a map of the location of patrol area etc. ) said that there were 50 Royal Marines going as well.

Well, you cant let 50 Marines go round on their own without protection from 800 Black Watch troops.

Fourth and seventh picture down in the above link. What is that below the barrel on his rifle? Is it a grenade launcher? Iv'e only ever seen one on an M16 or M4.

It's an AG36 grenade launcher (made by H&K I think)
Being given two per section I believe, to add some extra firepower.

The AG36 rifle mounted grenade launcher is the latest addition to the G36 rifle system. This launcher is to the G36 series what the very heavy HK79 is to the G3/HK33/G41 to form the TGS or Tactical Group System as HK named the combination. Like the G36, polymer is used along with high strength aluminum for light weight. The AG36 fires most all 40mm x 46 low impulse projectiles from less lethal foam rounds to High Explosive "say goodnight" rounds.
