Tab,
I have to agree and disagree with your comments.
1. I don't like Tony Blair either. I think he sent our Armed Forces into a conflict that was unjustified and un-necessary. So he sent our young men to die, not for this country but for another.
2. Saddam Hussein was not a threat to Britain. Hitler was!
3. Of course Tony Blair should have been at the Remembrance Day parade. He is, unfortunately, our Prime Minister. I also bet, he wished he was elsewhere though. He has done nothing but use our Armed Forces when they suit him and is now cutting them, when it suits him! The Labour Party in general, of course, do nothing to recognise the proud history of this country.
4. Of course you should be proud of wearing a poppy because you are honouring the dead and the men that make them are war disabled veterans.
Ex-URNU-Student does have a point. Not about the two World Wars - but about the current conflicts.

How do we know that these conflicts are wrong, they may seem a bit of a balls up, but it will take many years before history will judge whether these conflicts where justified or not. I often think back to the Suez invasion of 1956, and wonder just how the Middle East would have turned out had we finished the job, would we have been fighting all these wars in the Middle East if we had not stopped when we did. Who can tell, but I feel it is better to stop some of these dictators before they get to powerful and cause an even bigger upheaval. What if Saddam had built his long range gun and had got hold of atomic material from Iran or Pakistan and used it on Israel what would have happened next one wonders. We may not always agree what we have to do but do WE always have the full picture, does any one have the full picture, we can only be judged by history.

ex-urnu-student,
no matter what reason soldiers are fighting, their memories should be honored because they are serving the country they signed up for.
how does that make wearing a poppy fake?
men and women died for the freedoms you enjoy so much today, men and women continue to die for the freedoms we enjoy today.
whatever the motives of blair, whatever the conflict, the servicemen and women who die carrying out their orders deserve their memories honoured.
as tab said, as yet we dont know the iraq conflict is wrong, in a few years saddam could have thrown a nuke our way, i for one am thankfull we wont have the oppertunity to find out.

Hi Tab,
If Saddam had built his long range gun, or had got his hands on nuclear material, we might have had a reason to invade. But he didn't! We cannot be the World's policemen!
Other countries have their own attitudes and customs. It is not for us to say that they are right or wrong.
I am not sure that Suez was justified. And who knows what would have happened if we had "won".?
The only war that is justified, in my mind, is one that you are defending yourself. Not one that we are instigating to, "effect a regime change".

Are yopu going to invade a country which has WMD to which there is no real defense but distance, and has used forbidden weapons in the past. While that particular leadership which used WMD in the past is still in power. If Saddam had built his long range gun, or had got his hands on nuclear material, we might have had a reason to invade. But he didn't! We cannot be the World's policemen!
If a man has nothing he is willing to die for then he isn't fit to live.

Agree with the former, disagree with the latter!

Iraq was no threat, the wars made the world more dangerous. Im pretty sure if the intel community had been allowed to give a fair assessment they would agree.
Saddam wasnt a direct military threat to us but he was a threat to the stability of the middle east. In case you havnt noticed the middle east is where all that oil stuff, the stuff the whole world economy runs on, comes from. If the oil goes, we all go, its that important.
