Just passed RSC.
Hi,
I just passed RSC, and was accepted for my first choice - paras. If anyone has any questions regarding RSC, I'd be happy to answer them for you!

Where abouts was the RSC that you did because i may have mine in the same place (i dont live too far away from London).
What were your gym scores, and run time etc?
When is your intake to Catterick?
James
I attended RSC at Pirbright.
Heaves: Funny story actually. I was hanging on the heave bar for a good 30 seconds, before the cpl even told me to start doing any heaves. He only did this to me. He then said, 'you're tall, you must have your legs up half way behind you' so I did this then started heaving. I completed 10 heaves (and still going) he then said 'none of them counted'. They must be full arm extensions. I know they were. I could only manage 6 more after this, I'd be hanging on this bar for easily over a minute. I don't know if it was some sort of a wind-up or what. I was the only one going for the Para's there.
Back extension: 148kg.
Dead lift: Around the same, I can't remember to be honest.
1.5 mile run: 1.5 mile. Some guy there was bragging he'd get under 8 minutes the whole time he was there. I stayed behind him all the way - and then to take the piss, and for my own 'pride' over took him with about 400 meters to go. He was a fast runner though - it had to be said.
Team tasks: MOST IMPORTANT. I was given a grade 2.
Ice breaker and so forth were a piece of piss!

Just had some new staff join some of the old staff, and i hope they are a bit less harsh, because it ended in most of the last Tamera platoon being injuredparatobe.matt wrote:January 16th or the 29th! Ive heard from a reliable source that we will be in RHINE Platoon, and the staff are all really good blokes. Doesnt mean its going to be any easier, but compared to other platoons, TAMERA in particular, its not too bad!
How much training are you doing now until then matt? Im doing a training programme today after i work out how many days we get until we go.
I had some advice from the Para PTI on my insight course that you might find useful...He told me to run every other day for a basic run of about 4-5 miles. Then on the other days do a big muscle workout, either in the gym or at home; loads of pushups, sits, heaves, the lot basically just thrash yourself. Also, start running with weight, obviously not alot because you will get injured, but small amounts for short distances and build on it. Plus do a BFT every 2 weeks.
Hope this helps. Im going to stick with what he said, sounds like good advice and a good programme.

Cool. I'm not too sure about the platoons and so forth. Not been given much information about it atall.
I train 2 days on, 1 day off. However I could easily go for the extra day if I wanted - I used to train every day! lol.
What kind of pace are you running 4-5 miles at? I spend about 2 hours at the gym, working on upper body strength, every day I train. Yeah it sounds good all in all, but I've found, if you just give it every single bit of effort you can, in every aspect, that'll work best! (Easier said than done, of course.)
Do you have MSN or anything? If so, PM me your address for it!

New update for you lads!
In January there will be two intakes. One been AFC (Army Foundation Collage) and one been a civilian intake. The main difference between the two is that AFC will begin at week 12, whereas the civvy intake will be week 1.
It is more than likely that one will be Rhine Platoon, the other, Tamera Platoon. Each platoon in Para Depot is named after a famous battle honour of the regiment. Usually the staff for each platoon stay the same, however there have been rumours that there will be, or are, quite a few new staff in both cases.
Good luck to anyone who starts training next year - Its nice, sunny, warm and dry up here at the moment (sarcasm),
