I know it sounds stupid Jordiman, but do you get 'used' to firing/zeroing in etc? As when I was i the TA a couple of years ago, we only used the Iron Sites on the 100, 200 and 300 metre targets (the ones that pop up)

On the 100 and 300 targets I was fine, but for some reason, on the 200 I was terrible! Is there a way or composing yourself? As I never got taught it.

I guess it will all be taught in training, but to be honest, the weapons test is one of the tests I am worrying about!
(sorry this is a bit of a weird question!)

I found 100m the hardest (took me 6 attempts to pass) as its standing and kneeling (and I couldn't kneel comfortably because of my injury) and also on Dartmoor wind wind is very strong to say the least. I passed 200m 1st time, 300m 3rd and 400m 1st time.

You get taught the marksmanship principles which are pretty much the same as HABIT also our corporal told us at base, body, bollocks which is where to aim on the targets so the round lands in the centre at 1, 2, 300m respectfully.

We did do quite a bit of dry firing in pairs, one man standing behind you cocking the rifle with his pullthrough.

You get plenty of attempts to pass and no-one got backtrooped when we did it. Apparently quite alot used to get backtrooped when you had to pass with the iron site but that test was scraped so you shouldn't worry.

daveb, when I did my APWT (TA) we already had our rifles zero'd. I found the 200 and 300 easier than the 100. I don’t know if it was because I had my breathing sorted by then though.

Failed it due to a faulty mag, the spring broke and wouldn’t feed any rounds, I think I got to fire 5 out of the 20 rounds in that mag :o its so frustrating just watching your target go up and down whilst the NCO's are trying to get their hands on a loaded mag for you.

Yea I can imagine mate :(

Did you get any people next to you shooting down your targets by accident instead of theirs? (I had that happen to me!)

We had to zero our in ourselves and tbh, I dunno why, but I just couldnt get to grips with it (probably cos they never really trained us how to do it!....then again we were Artillery and for some stupid reason, they thought that we wouldnt really ever need to learn infantry things! terrible aint it!)

You know when you're gonna be fixed yet Fodd? We've just had two lads from Hunter join us...we've lost 4 guys and another one's going, but we've got 4 back-troopers...they reckon we're the biggest troop (51 of us) that they've had at this stage for a while! They've gotta start dropping soon... :o
