War to end all wars, as if

Post by harry hackedoff »

Today, one of Australia`s WW I Vets died. There`s three left.
Maurice Caux wasn`t interested in re-unions. In fact he "invented" a whole new life for himself, where he hadn`t even been to war at all. He told his familly that he was too young for the First and too old for the second. They knew nowt about old Maurices secret till a wee smallie package arrived from La Belle France in 97. Maurice and familly turn to and it all comes out as Maurice has the Ambassador from France kissing him on the face as he awards Maurice Le Legion D`Honeur. His familly were astounded as the old bloke had never ever given a hint of his exploits. He`d fought through the hardest battles from Somme to Poizierres, been gassed and shot three times and was so in touch with his mates who died on the Somme, you`d think it happened last week."Most of `em were English lads, sweet as you like, and true blue Aussies, all of `em"
Last few years of his life, Maurice was astonished that anyone would even consider that his exploits were anything out of the ordinary. He was feted at Remembrance Parades and he found that amazing.

He seemed a real Gent and a True Blue Aussie, he gets a State Funeral next week.
Here`s to him and those like him :drinking:

yea all heroes. Lest We Forget. A story like that really makes you realise that you have heroes like that who don't ask for recognition of what they did and prefer to keep it very quiet. then you get these loud mouthed walters giving it all this.Pisses me off a bit

Blokes like that who deserve throning, but don't even want a medal, are the best kind. Here's to Maurice :drinking:
I once read a magazine article about Jeremy Clarkson's Father-in-law (I think it was his father-in-law..) Who won a VC in WWII. Supposedly, he and his oppos had been under fire for some time, and after seeing some of his friends die, he had ran towards the enemy in a fit of rage and, I think, took out a couple of tanks. I forget the exact details, but it was an amazing story. Nobody in his family knew he had a c@#t after his death.

Cheers bb, Anyone trained in"one foot on the ground", and fire and manoeuvre, is stunned by the bravery of those young lads.
And at the sheer stupidity of their Generals. If massed Infantry charges against heavy machine guns didn`t work last time, you twonk, what makes you think it will work this time. Most of the footage seems to demonstrate a distinct lack of apreciation for any sort of cover.
Easy to take the piss, and I`m not, but do not judge those young lads by today`s standards.
As for Earl Haig(harlem pimp name :o ) What a prick. Lions led by donkeys, indeed. Haig was surely the biggest ass.
Maurice Caux, once he "came out", spent the last few years talking about the Aussie concept of "mateship" and about how most of his unit was English, but considered themselves to be Australian. There is nothing like this in UK, this unifying feeling of mateship. It is very alive today.

As BB says, nobody knew about JCs father in law, until JC sat down and explained it all. He's very proud of th eman. There was a TV prog produced by JC dedicated to his memory.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

This man was awarded what was decribed as the finest Victoria Cross of World War 2 and he never mentioned it to anyone. To me that is incredible.
It speaks volumes of Major Cain's character and we should all take a leaf out of his book. He is a true hero.
The programme was called "Victoria Cross: For Valour "
"The enemy should be in no doubt that we are his nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction."

Well, the old boy had his State Funeral today, all the Great and the Good attended and gave speaches. What Maurice would`ve thought, is anyone`s guess. Of the four survivors, he was the only one well enough to turn up at occasions like this, and so it was today :P

Here`s to him :drinking:
