formal interview

Post by thenewshmoo_1 »

does anyone have a good few sentances to reel off when they ask why you want to join the Paras rather than another unit.....they always come back with the classic one that you can jump out of planes but not have to join the paras....i can`t think of any reasons why that wont make me sound a bit daft in an interview situaton.....cheers:P

couple of things you could do:

1) brown nose with the "dont want to be an ordinary hat" stuff (which they may see as brown nosing)

2) go with the "i want to be more than just an infanteer" (similar to 1, but less brown-nosing

3) read up on regiment history and say you want to be a part of it (a little more brown nosing)

ultimatly, be honest.

Yeah i got the classic line too in my 2nd Interview. They are going to ask you what you can give to the Para Reg, they kept trying to startle me with questions like that. I passed, it felt more like i was being interogated rather than have an interview. It was the Lesbo Staff Sgt i had, i never liked her since i first seen her. She is still trying to get me to join an Infantry regiment, if i was i would of not had such a hard time with her. You know what, she aint going to stop me becomming a para. She is even saying that she needs proof that i can do 1.5 Miles in under 9.18 before she even sends me off to RSC. But she would happily send me off for Infantry. I am rambling and sorry for going a bit off topic, but thats how my interview was and still the same after it. I need to get my run time down though, about another month and i should of cracked it. If she is still being a pain in the arse i am going to another AFCO.

I just went in casuals for my informal one, but still looked smart but not shirt and tie smart.

One of the ways to explain why you want to join is just to say,"some people want to be pop stars or racing drivers me I just want to be a paratrooper, it is most like a calling, all you need to do is to bless my application".

What time are you running it atm mate ? mines down around 9:40 but physio has told me i need to ease off the running a bit because the runners knee i have could lead to stress fractures in the top of ma shins :D so gotta be careful now only alowed to run 3 - 4 times a week now just have to make each run count i guess

I wore a suit and tie.

Pretty straight forward - didn't really ask much apart from confirmed a load of details, confirmed what I wanted to do (7 Para) and gave me an advanced job brief. That was a sat, I was at RSC the following Tuesday.

i`m doing a 3.3 mile course in 21m 44secs....i think thats about 9-10mins for a 1.5 mile so i`m pretty much in the same boat :O i`m on a diet at the moment to get my body fat down so i should be able to go quicker... no more donuts for me over the next few weeks  i want to get it down to about 8 minutes 30 incase i feel like shit on the day...i`m not sure if thats possible in 4 weeks...may have to stall them a bit :D ... its probably best to cut back on your running a bit with something like that, you will probably save yourself time in the long run by not making it worse
